Oh gawd!
Tough. If you dont like it dont use it. There is a choice.

I have only seen one of these anyway.
they don't taste very good - anybody any recipes?
Cue jokes about having a fat wallet...
How is there a choice if you are given it in your change / cash withdrawal?
I rarely see an 'old' fiver these days.
Well, I was quite happy to eat mine.

Solved the problem of my 'five for the day' ;o)
You're not a tenner lady then?
/// Yesterday, the Bank of England revealed that the new polymer notes contain tallow - a type of animal fat usually used in candles and soap - making them unsuitable for vegans. ///

No candles on a vegan's birthday cake, or soap for washing then?
TCL > You're not a tenner lady then?

I'm laughing so much my bladder's gone ;o)
Wasn't something like this that set off the Indian Mutiny?
You can get vegan soap and candles.

One learns something everyday.
Is this a record, I still haven't had one of these ??
soya candles, or paraffin wax and soap made with vegetable oil AOG....and yes you are kind of right about the Indian Mutiny. One of the last straws was the issue of ready greased paper cartridges which had to be bitten to release the powder....there was a rumour that they were greased with animal fat.

Maybe...I haven't had the old fiver for ages. I've kinda forgot them already.
You'd be hard put to find soap or candles made from tallow these days.

Would our local Pakistani shops be within their right to refuse to class these notes as legal tender?
I don't know the legal answer to that , but all the shops I know are glad of your custom and therefore your money.

I don't frequent vegan Cafés, so not sure what their stance would be.

Ask for £1 coins maybe or ensure you have the correct change?

I imagine if they refuse to take them, that's up to them. The notes are legal tender.
