From the BBC link above :::

"MPs will then vote on that decision in the winter of 2017-18"

Why wait until then ? if its going to be built, what is the point of faffing around for another 12 months ?

Motorways nearby are gridlocked already but if its okay with HRH who am I to object.

The trouble is Tambo, that Mrs M appears to have done a rather sharp u-turn ::::

Approval is only the start. No need for chains yet. I believe there are all the legal objections to go through.

Actually,, I am tending to agree with Boris here. I am not sure if this 3rd runway will ever be built, in my lifetime anyway. There many a slip betwixt cup and lip.
Mrs M must have got wind of my potential development on greenbelt ;)
This was always going to be the decision ;so i really don't know why this decision was so protracted .

Oh wait , i know , the government had to go through the process of pretending to be listening to the objectors
If they had been enlightened - which by definition government wallahs are not, they would build both Heathrow and Gatwick. Use some of that overseas aid cash.......
Won't this destroy villages though and wildlife areas ?

This brings to mind a similar controversy, over the Heliport at Penzance, which used to operate flights to the Scilly Isles., until it closed down and replaced by a supermarket.

I was taking to a very posh couple who lived 2 miles away from the Heliport, who were so glad that it was going to be demolished, as the noise was "absolutely ghastly"

I asked them how long they had lived there and they replied that it was 5 years.

I then asked them how long was it, after they moved in, that they discovered that there was a Heliport so close ?

There will be thousands of people who will be objecting to any expansion at Heathrow despite it being in existence for many years since the houses surrounding it were built. Many of them will work at the Airport !
there's serious talk about reopening the heliport service, mikey....options near Marazion, St Erth car park and the roof of Sainsbury's.......

DTC....lol !

It will never re-open methinks, now that they have that all-weather runway at St Just.
Whichever way it wet they were going to be wrong.

Still at least a decision has been made.
There is a world of difference between accepting what is there when one moves in, and being expected to tolerate a large expansion that will blight locals' lives. One can not argue that having been ok with the inch one is obliged to accept the mile.
Night flight restrictions from 11.30pm to 6am would not fair well for LHR to be of global use.

OG....People have been complaining about the noise and pollution caused by Heathrow for as long as I can remember, but it doesn't seem to have stopped them buying houses there !

There plenty of other places to live in the London area, without living under the fight path of Heathrow. The main reason to live there is that houses are cheaper then other places, which can't be any surprise to anyone.
Sorry posted this in wrong thread (but it was related). Unless the M25 is also reviewed in that area, it will bring it to a virtual standstill.
Question Author
TTG...I expect that the powers to be have already thought of that.
