"Police investigating the reported abduction of a child in Surrey have arrested a man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice"

Only two days ago the Police were saying that their witness was a "credible source"

So I wonder who they have arrested ?

They've arrested the 'credible source' - the man who claimed to have witnessed the abduction
On the lack of information, I don't think there is anything more that can be added.

So this chap went from being "credible" to being arrested in about 48 hours !
Surely most people who appear to be completely sane would be considered a 'credible source'
With a bit of police work, Mikey!
Opinions change as the evidence changes.
If a person isn't known to the police, appears to be rational and reports a crime to the police I hope he is taken seriously. After all, the police aren't mind readers nor able to administer a truth serum.

If this man has lied to the police I hope he is prosecuted and imprisoned

Ummm....I haven't seen any evidence that this chap is insane, but all the facts in this case were dismissed within a day or so...ownership of the bike, the identity of the van and the fact that no child had been reported missing.

I seem to recall that lots of people on AB saying that it was probably Gypsies or Travellers, despite there being no evidence whatsoever. Still don't understand where they got that impression from.

hc ....(11:45) ....me too.
Exactly, Mikey, and that's the reason this person has been arrested. It takes more than a couple of hours to investigate a crime.

The police may have suspected he was a fraudster but they couldn't take the risk.
Question Author
No, but they could have stopped insisting he was a "credible witness" though, couldn't they ?

I agree, however, that any possible child abduction report should be treated seriously.

What a great pity it is that 100's of girls were sexually abused in Britain these last few years, without the Police being unduly worried ?

And at who's door can the blame be placed for that?
At the door of men, AOG. Men made the laws, men abused the girls.
Hc > At the door of men, AOG. Men made the laws, men abused the girls.

The police force isn't 100% male is it or social services etc.Collective failings always come to the fore.
I think hc was just using a figure pf speech.

agcheristie....yes, I agree. The conclusion of the Jay enquiry made that abundantly clear.

Those, mostly white, girls were failed at every turn, by everybody that they came into contact with, starting with their own families.

For evil to triumph, all it takes is for good men and women, to do nothing.

/// AOG...its all here :::: ///

Thank you mikey as I suspected, all down to Leftist views.

*** Because most of the perpetrators were of Pakistani heritage, several council staff described themselves as being nervous about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought racist; others, the report noted, "remembered clear direction from their managers" not to make such identification.[31] One Home Office researcher, attempting to raise concerns about the level of abuse with senior police officers in 2002, was told not to do so again, and was subsequently suspended and sidelined.[32] The researcher told BBC Panorama that: ***

*** ... she had been accused of being insensitive when she told one official that most of the perpetrators were from Rotherham's Pakistani community. A female colleague talked to her about the incident. "She said you must never refer to that again – you must never refer to Asian men." "And her other response was to book me on a two-day ethnicity and diversity course to raise my awareness of ethnic issues."[17] ***
If the man they have arrested was indeed attempting to pervert the course of justice rather than simply mistaken let's hope his arrest and interview have made him think again.

We haven't much to go on , so best left at this time to those who have.
If they're not telling us 'who they have arrested,' then the child most probably has been 'culturally enriched'
