I think it's a sign that Tracy is intending to invoke A50 soon and it makes sense, even if it is our turn we should not be meddling in what is left behind.

Yes, it would be a bit awkward to take over as President when we are negotiating a withdrawal from the Eu
i`d agree with that and whoever was in line for it will be needed in the new Brexit building.
she's said it won't be this year.
It would be the decent thing to do and very British. Considering we gave the Agincourt's Archers to Europe in a democratic vote to tell them to shove it. :-)
"She's said it wont be this year" there is talk about it could take between five and seven years, from when article fifty is triggered, some people on here may never live to see it happen. Good heavens, we may have a new Government by then and the whole thing could be kicked into the long grass ,OMG.
I don't think it makes much odds, but given the choice, whilst we are still in the EU, I think we should take our responsibilities seriously and not wriggle out of them.

ah bless the last death throws of the remainiacs, still hoping we'll stay with their beloved EUSSR, quite touching really.
Who is Tracy?
Tracy is our new PM, Hopkirk.

TGT has unilaterally decided that 'Tracy' is a diminutive of T(h)eresa.....
It's too warm for throws of any kind ;-)
jack the hat , my sides are splitting , stop it.
Yes, good move.
We cannot really lead the Council when we don't want any part of it.
Of course we shouldnt take the "presidency"...we need to show them we mean business.....let some other power mad tinpot take it...
TTT would you care to explain your logic behind getting from relinquishing the presidency to invoking A50 soon?
I think you're getting a ted over excited.

well zacs I'm sure you know but I'll humour you. If the PM was going to welch on the referendum then she'd be committed to the EUSSR and would not relinquish the presidency. Thus by doing so she is indicating that A50 is going to happen at least before the 2nd half of 2017 hopefully a lot sooner. There you are, feel better now?
I think your making 2+2 = 5. One does not necessarily follow the other.
Question Author
if you say so zacs.
I was wondering who 'Tracy' was as well. Thanks jth. Come to think of it, in 'On her Majesty's Secret Service' when Bond marries Tracy, it is explained that her name was really Theresa - If my memory serves me rightly. I read it over 40 years ago!
May has told Merkel that there will be no talks about Brexit in 2016. So no invoking in the near future.
Perhaps they are hoping we forget the result on 23rd June.
I feel myself turning pachydermic as we type, Gromit!
