Peterborough, Its A Nightmare Now....
....says a few friends of mine, as I don't live too far away.

I do wish people who write articles like that just wouldnt.
The reason pubs have closed is nothing to do with immigrants. The area the chap is talking about (Millfield) has always been a *** hole- near to the railway and quite yucky industry and since the 70s has had a dual carriageway thundering through it. Yet move across a few streets and one has large detached villas with wrought iron gates all kept in a lovely condition.
Peterborough has had a very strong and thriving Polish community since just after the second world war. There have been polish shops, polish associations etc for as long as I can remember (and I am the wrong side of 40 and lived here or near here for most of my life). Indeed, I once had a polish father in law. There has also been a strong Italian community - largely since the 50s when Peterborough positively encouraged migrant workers. There are not any ghettos. He is talking utter nonsense.
The area I live in has a very high level of professionals and middle class yet there was a stabbing one street away at 2.30 this afternoon. I guess the immigrants will get blamed for that one too - must check where that pesky immigrant Mr BM was earlier.
Peterborough is in a rural area on the edge of the Fens. It is surrounded by intensive cereal, vegetable and floral production. Most of the indiginous population are too bone idle to do this sort of work. Unfortunately for Peterborough it also has a relatively high proportion of really bloody stupid people who believe everything they read on alarmist Britain First type literature.

According to the 2011 Census, Peterborough still has an overwhelmingly white, British population....84.4%.
83.7% have English as their main language, and 80% were born in Britain.
In mid-2014, the population of Peterborough was approx 193,740.
So....perhaps all those 10,000's of white British people don't go to Pubs often enough any more ? Logic would say that if the did, and business was booming, then there would still be lots of thriving Pubs.
