I have just read in the Daily Mail that Danny Alexander has received a knighthood and is now employed by a Chinese bank.Surely it is about time this antiquated honours system was abolished and heaven help the Chinese.

You want to abolish the Chinese?

No YMF just the honours system and the Liberal Democrat party.
well.....

the chief exec of Hong Kong, Donald Tsang was knighted hours before liberation by the people's army of china 1997

and kinda doesnt use it now he is chief exec of the special economic area ( same place )

anyway if you take a job in the labour party HQ do you have to vote labour the whole time ? or just in work hours ?

I mean to paraphrase the Duke of Edinburgh - does Sir Danny go around his HQ saying - I look like capitaist but I am slitty eyed inside ?
Danny Alexander was highly thought of at the Treasury, and his Conservative colleagues were genuinely sorry to see him lose his seat.

He should be congratulated for picking himself and getting a good job so quickly.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank have recruited well.
I agree with Gromit about Danny Alexander, but why the Knighthood ?

Its not as if he was a lifeboat captain is it ?
girlie on sky on this saying

companies hire people with extra expertise and they may need someone who has been in govt regulation and so they go and hire him when he is unemployed

He received his knighthood back in December. I don't remember reading about it then.
I think it's ridiculous for people to get gongs for doing their job, for which they are paid very well.
Has he done his job that well, anyway?
Previous Chief Secretary's to the Treasury have been enoble, William Waldergrave and Alstaor Darling.
While Jonathon Aitkin and Alan Milburn got nothing, due to their criminality.

Gromit...I couldn't give a monkeys what other politicians got.....I still can't see how or why Alexander qualified for a Knighthood....after all, he had only been in the job for 5 years and then he lost his seat altogether !

( actually, I quite like him ! )
It does seem odd he gets a knighthood.

Perhaps it's because he, by and large, put the country before party politics when in power?
Politicians and aides slide away from public life and capitalise on their contacts to earn eight-figure salaries.

This is the Daily Mail's idea of news?

Watch out tomorrow - Mail front page - shock horror probe!!!!
