leaning posters so conspicuous by their absence on threads about current troubles re the migrant/refugee issues?

You must have some views on it ... what are they?

Ps
Right leaning posters, no rants about muesli or knitting with yogurt, thanks!

Why are you opening this hornet's nest?

It is called debate.

Maybe some posters can enlighten me with a bigger picture of what is happening?
and convince me it is for the greater-good?

I am deafened by the response from the left
Who are the left?

What are we suppose to say? I don't think even the left were happy with the amount of refugees arriving on European shores. I don't want to see pain and suffering but even I could see it's a disaster waiting to happen.
can I rant about knitting with muesli?

I think it is extremely difficult to defend the indefensible and keep breathing whilst head is in sand and deny the facts as they emerge at the same time. As proved on another OP we debated just now. Some are like Merkel and find it hard to say,"Maybe I have got it wrong"

I consider myself more left than right when it comes to politics, ummm.

But I'm somewhat perplexed, you don't improve/resolve things by ignoring them. There needs to be a total rethink on the immigration problem.
If you are referring to the thread with a video by Tommy Robinson, then I'm just not playing that game.

He is a vile, unreconstructed, racist oaf - giving him the oxygen of publicity is a waste of good air.

The fact that (on this occasion) he has found an acceptable horse to pull his chariot of filth is irrelevant - I will not be even remotely associated with him.

Of course the behaviour of the immigrant scum in Cologne was criminal and disgusting - but I don't have to post on a thread of your choice to say so.
I think we're having beef tonight!

It is usually mikey who gives him oxygen, Sunny. Him and anyone else he considers far right!

And no, I was not referring to the thread with a video by Tommy Robinson.

So a bit of interest. Where do we go from here?
Carry on with the mass immigration?
Talking of which - who did actually say "The fascist of the future will call themselves anti-fascist"? some say it was Churchill
I don't think anyone from the left would not be worried about it at the moment.
//Talking of which - who did actually say "The fascist of the future will call themselves anti-fascist"? some say it was Churchill //

it wasn't, and it's doubtful if anyone ever said it in that form. the nearest quote that can be verified was by italian writer Ennio Flaiano:-
http://catenaumana.tv/ennio-flaiano-in-italia-i-fascisti-si-dividono-in-due-categorie-i-fascisti-e-gli-antifascisti/
(roughly, in italy there are 2 types of fascists: fascists and anti fascists)
thanks Mushroom !

In Italy fascists are divided into two categories: the fascists and anti-fascists. before being beaten by an anti-fascist and accused of being a fascist.

Before anybody calls me a 'lefty' let me make it clear that I have never voted Labour in my life and cannot envisage ever doing so.
There's been a lot of 'we told them so' self-congratulation from some of the more right-wing contributors to this site but I wager most of them were in favour or the second Iraq war and intervention in Libya, Afghanistan and Syria.
Do you not realise that we in the west have destabilised these countries by our actions, making life there intolerable and causing the very migration you are deploring Yes, Europe is in a terrible mess but it is largely because of the policies of our own stupid politicians.

Winston Churchill and the anti-fascist quote (UK)
Many people will have seen the claim that Winston Churchill said the immortal words.

“The Fascists of the future will be the anti-fascists.”

Often when challenging a BNP, EDL or some other far right idiot online they will use this semi-famous quote of Winston Churchill to vilify the anti-fascists/ anti-racists stance.

But here’s the problem.

There is no record of Winston Churchill ever saying this.

And the Winston Churchill society when asked if he had said it, replied by stating.

“There was absolutely no evidence anywhere of him ever saying it and so, therefore, he didn't say it.”

So if he didn’t say it who did or where did it come from?

Well it appears that this saying has it’s origin in 1930’s America, from Huey Long a populist politician from the state of Louisiana.

And what he actually said is along the lines of.

When Fascism comes to America, it will (be in the name of/come under the guise of/be called) anti-Fascism!"

Attributed to Huey Long in 1935 by various writers in 1938-1943
do two wrongs make a right, cactusdriver?
@mush

I'm not sure what you mean by that question.
