Not at all. When I hear someone clearing their throat to spit .. I wonder if they know how gross they look.

No.
NO

No way!
When I was a child there was a sign in all buses saying 'No Spitting'. This was a throwback to the days when chewing tobacco was quite common. Those who indulged would spit out the juice.
The irony. She said they were upset about being photographed and made to look like 'pigs in a pen'.
No, it's unacceptable.
No, it is disgusting.

Spitting is horrible. Spitting at somebody is assault. Vile.

When we were in London, about 3 weeks ago, near St. Pauls, I'd stopped to read an Information Board, my Wife had walked on ahead, a tin-rattling homeless type stuck himself in front of her virtually demanding money, she just swerved around him and as she went past he spat at her back, which with me about 15' behind was not a good idea. I don't know how long he was on his knees but it can't be a good position to beg from I'm sure.
So spitting is not good for your health either.
Spitting and eggs today, brick throwing and worse in the future.

The police should have took strong measures against the disgusting culprits and arrested them forthwith.
The Guardianista didn't say it was acceptable. She waffled on about protesting being good. She failed to condemn it, but she didn't agree with it. You are misrepresenting what she said and putting words into her mouth which she didn't say.

The eggs and the spitting got wider coverage this time (it has happened before) because the anarchists were also spitting at journalists and photographers too.
There was a young fellow from Ealing
On a bus, had a peculiar feeling
It said on the door
"Don't spit on the floor"
So he carefully spat on the ceiling.

I think it was more to do with the spread of consumption (TB), at that time it was rife.
No, spitting is not acceptable.
Whenever this question is asked I always reply truthfully as above.

Then I wryly smile at the number of times as a young Mum then a Gran I have shouted 'Spit it out, now!' as yet again a small child pops something they shouldn't into their mouth.

Yes, I know it is different, still makes me smile though.
A ticket inspector on the Tube castigated a fellow he found spitting. He said, "Why can't you obey that notice up there, it says "No Spitting"".

To which the fellow replied, "The same reason you ignore that one over there which says "Wear a Playtex Wonderbra"".

A horrible, filthy habit.Re jackdaws post many miners used to "chew" and the problem was that bad at the last pit I was at, especially underground, that it was banned in certain places such as control rooms and in the pit bottoms.
