You'l always get some without a hap'orth of sense.
Like Mamy says...there will always be the odd ones.

What I don't understand is smokers manage to fly off on their holidays and have to go without smoking so why can't they do it in a car...

well ummmm, I know you are a smoker so I assume you are able to go without a ciggie long enough, it seems many cannot.
This was discussed on the radio this morning and the expert they had confirmed for me that this is about making money rather than the health of children. He said if you are driving a motorhome you cannot smoke but if you pull over and park you can. Do you make the children stand outside?
The problem with smoking and children in an enclosed space is obvious but if they're are going to tackle the problem at least come up with a sensible and enforceable law. Even the police seem to be against it or at least its enforceability.

How are they going to make money? seriously, all the speeding tickets add up to less than simon cowel's tax bill for last tuesday so really??
Being pedantic that does not explain 'why the in car smoking ban'. To add I'm a smoker and that attitude is in this case 'abhorrent'

So why do you think it has been introduced, Prudie?
Divebuddy

\\\\I'll have to ask my girlfriend to get out of the car while I enjoy a post thingy cigarette.\\\\

Do the kids in the car watch you have a "thingy?"

I thought that the ban was only when children were in the car.
Stop spoiling for a fight. We all know why it has been introduced. Because a woman is going to refuse to comply does not explain why the ban has come in the first place. My comment is about logic
OP Why... This is why. The 2 are not connected
Girlfriend under 18??
If I was on a long car journey and fancied a cigarette I'd stop at the services.

LOL ^^^^..but the ban is for only people smoking when there are kids in the car.

Don't be embarrassed divebudy, I am a bit of a voyeur myself if truth be known ;-)
I'm not soiling for a fight at all. You put a comment which I think doesn't make sense so I asked a simple question.
If she's over 18,no problem.
Well if the ban works as well as the non use of mobile phones whilst driving, then it's a non starter.

I realise the anomalies when it gets to the mid/late teens group - we discussed that on JJ's thread.

I stated there that I hope the Police will target those with what are obviously children aboard.
Not really the case, Sammy. Yes, some people still use their mobiles but most don't. I haven't used my mobile while driving since it was banned.
