There are always nasty people in any side of the argument. The mistake is, as ever, in taking them to be representative of the majority.

They are riding the crest of the PC Wave (for the moment) and boy, are the rest of us gonna hear about it!

"There are always nasty people in any side of the argument" - what! there are nasties in the fluffy bunny beautiful people? wash your mouth out jim!
Ha ha...excellent TTT.

Bravo.

(We both know what I'm talking about!).

I'm off out now...enjoy your thread.
Are you a regular reader of 'jamaica-gleaner' TTT?
Michael Abrahams is always a good read, thanks.

Absolutely no need for nasty name calling or abuse.

I realise that not everyone agrees with the way and speed the world is changing but it should not descend to such bitterness.
Question Author
yes I get it delivered.
Question Author
where's the abuse mamy?
I have seen it here and on News reports sadly.
The gays in Jamaica are treated badly. Virtually ostracized from society and get no help whatsoever.
Jamaicans are very prejudiced people along with most other nations in the world.
TTT

I'm wondering whether the dearth of responses might be something to do with the fact that regular AB contributors suspect that you've posted this thread because you painted yourself into a corner on mummy's thread:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1442508.html

and then went hurtling around the Internet, searching for 'gay bullies'.

But aside from that - Michael Abrams makes some very valid points, but I think the thing he has not explained, is that intolerance of anti-gay sentiments is not the exclusive preserve of gay people.

TTT - as a test, you should try this amongst your straight mates (you might want to double-check they're straight to begin with - you never know these days).

When you're out with them one night, start dropping some anti-gay statements into the conversation.

You might find it surprising how many straight people now align themselves with gay people when it comes to equal rights.

I think a lot of people would be shocked that their 'Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve' sentimentality is not shared by the general public.

Perhaps it's because (especially in metropolitan areas) lots of straight people have at least one gay mate, and it becomes increasingly difficult to simultaneously hold anti-same sex marriage views whilst being friends with gay people.

for mummy's read ummm's.

Bloody autocorrect.
lol SP!( sorry Ummm ! )

//It appears that freedom of speech is a freedom that some of these activists only champion for themselves,//

One line in the article was true.
"Perhaps it's because (especially in metropolitan areas) lots of straight people have at least one gay mate, and it becomes increasingly difficult to simultaneously hold anti-same sex marriage views whilst being friends with gay people.".
Why should it be "difficult", SP?

Yep it is always wise to cover your ass by
stating first," One of my best friends is gay/black before venturing a valid opinion and they say conversational skills are not dead!!!
//lots of straight people have at least one gay mate, and it becomes increasingly difficult to simultaneously hold anti-same sex marriage views whilst being friends with gay people. //

My big gay mate is dead against same sex marriage. You would not argue with him believe me. He is also non pc and the funniest guy you could wish to meet. We don't do stereotypes but we do let them be so.

All gays want to do, is to live their lives as they see fit. Some of them want to get married.

What right has anybody to criticise or try to stop them doing that ? They are not harming anybody.

Why can't some people live and let live ?
My big gay mate is dead in favour of gay marriage.......whereas several of my big (and little) straight mates are NOT in favour of (straight) marriage.

Not quite sure what, if anything, that proves, by the way........just establishing 3rd party credentials.
//Why can't some people live and let live ? //

Well said mikey. some otherwise persuaded folk will not rest until it is compulsory.
