.......of milk at the supermarket?

How can the dairy farmers continue to produce milk when it costs them 28p/day to produce it and they have to sell it at 23p?

This has been going on for ages and in my view is, wrong. I wouldn't mind paying an extra few pence. No business can survive selling their goods at a loss.

Why do the breweries not complain when the supermarkets sell beer at below cost price as a 'loss leader'.? Because the supermarkets buy the beer at a higher price than they sell it for and take the loss to bring more people into the shops. I do not see why they do not do the same with milk. If they want to sell it cheap as a form of advertising , just take the loss, it all...

It seems that there is an excess of supply and a fall in demand so it's hard to stop the downward pressure on prices.
I would, yes.

Everybody needs milk, f-f. Why is there a fall in demand?
I already do (pay more for a pint) by going to the local farm shop and buying locally produced milk so the carbon footprint is almost nil. It is not many pence dearer because they do not have the transport costs.
And yet supermarkets charge the earth for butter?????
Something amiss somewhere, butter had been shooting up in price for some time now, farmers are being slaughtered by the supermarkets....loss leaders? yeah right.

Based on the OP, Yes I would!
I would absolutely pay more for milk. The big supermarkets are squeezing the poor farmers dry, not just for milk but other goods as well.

Food is very cheap nowadays compared to years ago when I was growing up, the supermarkets certainly aren't losing out so I presume the supplier is. How long can it be kept up when people are at the end of their rope trying to make ends meet in their business.

Good to hear that everyone.
I'd pay more. At least 50p for 2 litres more.
If only the supermarkets would listen
// everyone needs milk// ?

We use about 2 pints a week betweent he 2 of us but could live without it if it wasn't available. I'm quite happy with almond milk or soya, although I would eventually long for a small piece of cheese!
At the risk of starting a real row about the EU In/Out Referendum, in the event of an Out vote, who will pick your cheap food from the fields of East Anglia? I would certainly pay more for the milk if the extra went to the farmers and not the supermarkets.

That is my, raison d'être zebo.
Yes. People pay ridiculous prices for nasty fizzy pop with no nutritional value, yet Milk is a nutritious drink and food would pay twice as much. Personally, I don't drink milk, orchsve it in tea or coffee, but my husband does

I prefer soya, but my oh drinks it and I cook with it. It is ridiculously cheap
you can help by choosing where you shop

I would pay proper price if I knew the farmer was benefiting and not the retailer
If we all abstained from buying milk from the big supermarkets... this problem may go away.

I haven't seen a milk float for years, used to love doing my milk round as a boy.
Bottled water is often more expensive than milk. Yes, I would pay more.
I'd pay more - & I go through a minimum of 16 pints a week.
