Yes perhaps not the most popular protest group, but who else is there to protest on such a disgusting state of affairs?

///'Sheffield is a great city because its a multicultural city'///

Rewind to your earlier question AOG!
Hmmm, maybe diverting the attention of 600 police officers from 9 forces, and the resulting £hit on the Council Tax payer, is not the best way to highlight a poor Police response vis-a-vis paedophile gangs.

No idea about the answer to your question. How would the EDL know? It is clear the Police and Local Authority let down the local community. As these mistakes have been admitted, the 'Paedophile Paradise' would be the past, not the present.
Protests are a big inconvenience to the police as it is very costly and diverts resources. Doesn't matter who the protest group is then....

Inconvenience takes precedence over rousing those authorities over their slumber then....

It is not the EDL's fault if the police authorities choose to over react to a 200 person peaceful;l protest.

"Sheffield Unite Against Fascism" admitted to sending nearly twice as many to oppose the EDL.

Perhaps it is this group who you should be accusing of wasting police cash and resources?
What this shows AOG is that twice as many people turned up to oppose the EDL, than did to support it. Considering the EDLs background and previous record, it doesn't surprise me one little bit that they are as little popular as they are. The are a nasty far-right Fascist organisation and should be treated as such.

From the Wiki entry for EDL ::::

"The EDL evolved from the football casual subculture and is loosely organised around figures in hooligan firms"

Says it all really !
It is good that you admit this is a waste of police resourses.

The EDF called this rally. The ALF would not have been in Sheffield yesterday otherwise. It is clear that the EDL initiated the process that resulted in money and resourses being wasted, so it is clear who is ultimately to blame.

On the up side, Sheffield publicans will have done a roaring trade yesterday.
Mikey, in fairness to AOG he did point out that the EDL are not the most popular protest group but the question is valid 'who else is there to protest?'
I think it says it al when one group turns up to protest about another group protesting about peadophilia.

Do this other group support peadophilia?

Yes a good point Talbot, you would have thought that this would have been an ideal chance for the two protest groups to come together and protest on a common concern.
Agchristie,

Normaly when the Police have been guilty of neglecting their duties, the residents of Sheffield would complain to their elected Police and Crime Commissioner.
Unfortunately the one in power at the time, Shaun Wright, was forced to resign due to his complicity in the Rotherham Grooming Scandal.
Yes, common ground surely? Even the Tories and Labour can agree with each other sometimes....
Well at least the right wing EDL marched and NO arrests were made unlike our left wing anti austerity marchers joined by the usual WSP where loads of damage is caused and arrests made.
If we have to talk about police resources and costing then perhaps we should consider all the National Gay Pride marches that have to be policed as well.
That is the price we pay for Democracy.
That link states: "In March it was revealed that police ignored reports that more than 200 girls were potential victims of sexual exploitation in Sheffield, mainly between 2007 and 2010."

Well, five years on and the matter is being dealt with by the police and other officials, very publicly so.
It is still a valid point that these offences are not paedophilia, so Sheffield is certainly not a 'paedophiles' paradise'. (Note the correct use of the apostrophe).

It is a disgrace that these offences were ignored for so long, not just in Sheffield but countrywide but the police should be allowed to focus on bringing these sex offenders to justice, not spending a LOT of man power and money on these protests and rallies.
Whatever word you want to use for adults having sex with children, it is totally wrong. I get really bored of hearing about what the dictionary says.

To me any adult who has sex with children is a scumbag paedophile.
I have just noticed that the EDL are using that well-known British greeting, the Nazi salute, in the Huffington link. Makes you proud to be British !
Looks like Nye Bevan@s gesture could be misinterpreted as an Il Duce salute as well. :-)
Talbot, the law recognises that the offence of having sex with a child aged 13 and under (a paedophile) is more heinous than having sex with a child aged 14 or 15.
Rape of a person of any age is a disgusting crime, but paedophilia deserves a name of its own in recognition of the very young age of the children.

There is another distinction. By your definition a young person of 15, 16 or 17 having consensual sex with a young person of 15 is a paedophile. That is clearly not the case.

I get sick and tired of the word 'paedophile' being bandied about willy nilly and being diluted by being wrongly applied.
-- answer removed --
I am well aware of what the dictionary meaning of the word is, Bro.
I'm sure anyone whose 14 year old child that as been the victim of abuse would totally agree with you , hc
LOL Rtrocop...eell spotted !
