Surely there are more pressing matters than the Bentiful Game.

Too right - corruption in FIFA is a matter for the courts, not MPs.
They are playing for time. :-)

Just let the septics bang em up, end of.
Yes there are more pressing matters. This is of no concern to the majority of the electorate (and in any case has been known about for years). Quite what MPs hope to achieve by their "debate" is unclear but I fail to see any matters likely to arise that should be issues for Parliament to determine.
One may ask why are we wasting time on it also. :0)
They wasted an entire day on Queen Cameron's speech yesterday (mercifully overshadowed by more important matters) so why the hell not :-)

so the government setting out it's legislalitive plan is a waste of time is it ichkeria? right oh! What a strange world you inhabit. Labour had Queens speeches too you know!
Why have a 'Minister for Sport' if what happens within sporting organisations should be of no interest to Parliament?
It's a bit early in the days of a Tory administration to be losing your sense of humour Torah :-)
Tora sorry lol
Its obvious as most of what parliament did is now done in Brussels. Saying that this is a new parliament so there must be loads of new issues to debate rather than football. Paying them too much for doing too little it seems.
Barney... I don't think they will be discussing the offside rule.
It is our national sport and the biggest scandal to hit football?
Quite so.

But I thought the aim of Parliament was to debate matters that needed its attention not to have a natter about something of little consequence because it is filling the newspapers. This matter needs no attention from Parliament. If laws have been broken I'm sure there is adequate legislation in place to address the issues.
And on refelection I disagree that this is the biggest scandal to hit football. The biggest scandal to hit that tedious sport is the fact that these practices have been known about for many years and nothing happened until the FBI decided to sort it out.
as one MP remarked years ago:

the House of Commons is a magnificent Talking Shop.

I am pretty sure that MPs can ( and do ) ask a question on anything at all
( perhaps not on going cases in court )
It's relevant because FIFA's corruption prevented Britain from hosting the world cup, and always will unless we start paying the necessary bribes, which we won't.

As a taxpayer, you and the government should be concerned about that because they spend millions of our money putting these bids together.
You may argue that they shouldn't, but the fact is they do, and as long as that's the case, it's a subject of concern to the govt.
"It's relevant because FIFA's corruption prevented Britain from hosting the world cup"

Still not a matter for Parliament. If laws have been broken the police should investigate (as the FBI did). And governments should not be spending millions putting these bids together. The costs should fall on the relevant sporting authorities.
