/// Lewisham Homes, which manages houses for Labour-run Lewisham council in south London, has now threatened to “monitor” Ms Maple closely. ///

Great letters underneath. Nice to see normal people fighting back against the fascists. Hopefully, their days are coming to an end.
I suggest it was a mistake ... some dimwit in the council undoubtedly didn't recognise the black face in the picture and assumed that (rather than supporting his views) she was advocating sending him 'back home' (to use the unfortunate phrase so beloved of racists everywhere).

They should (but won't) apologise for attempting to stifle her support for a legitimate candidate and his policies.

They have handled that very badly.

However as an aside many tenancies (Both Council/HA and Private have rules against Political and other posters in windows - mine does.

Mind you they also tell me not to hang out my washing, but I ignore that rule.
Mamy...you're such a rebel!! :-)
That's me.
I await the "Mamy's_Pants_Gate" scandal with my breath bated ...
Cheeky!!

Sorry AOG.
Thank goodness she didn't call for 'controls on immigration', eh.
How are you supposed to dry your clothes mamya? barmy rules!
It's hardly a 'hate crime', mamya, hanging your bloomers up. Unless the neighbours are trying to sunbathe.
If you bother to read the published article you will clearly see that it quotes that what she is doing breaches her tenancy agreement. To make it clearer for those that do not understand, she does not own her own house she occupies a council property & when one is given a property to rent, one signs a document agreeing to the terms of rental. This lady unfortunately has her own rules & has been warned that if she does not conform to the council rules she could face eviction. How much clearer could that be ?
I asked them that and even wrote a poem - considering energy wastage I refuse to buy a tumble dryer.

I said if they would pay to have my laundry done and returned to me then I'd stop - they left it.

We had a lovely Gentleman who each Lent would place a pretty poster , a small statue of Our Lady and a vase of daffodils - they told him to remove his 'religious' display, we rallied them against that too.
Agreed WR - but it is the crass way this Council have approached this Lady about the issue, total lack of tact and diplomacy.
words of one syllable Ron

clauses in a tenancy can be deal breakers ( break one and you get evicted ) not even rent arrears come into this - so long as you pay off the arrears

or basically window dressing. I put in a necessity to insure belongings - but I wouldnt dream of evicting someone who had been dim enough not to uninsure. Same goes for mowing the lawn
Sorry Mammy but rules is rules as they say. If rules ( any rules) start to be ignored as it would appear that some folks think they should be then you are asking for a state of anarchy.
Well then - they should simply have said she was breaking her tenancy by displaying a poster - why all the other garbage??
Totally unnecessary in my view.
but where has she been racist? at no point has she mentioned immigration or people of different colours/ethnicity/backgrounds. the closest bit is the statement about europe, benefits and homes. however, all the major parties now talk on these issues. i think the housing association have f****** up here......i bet it does not state that she cannot put things in her window, and what she has written will not meet the burden of proof for a prosecution. pc nonsense at its best!

/// If you bother to read the published article you will clearly see that it quotes that what she is doing breaches her tenancy agreement. ///

And if you had bothered to read the published article you would clearly see, that rather than accusing others, it is you who fails to understand.

It was obviously a false accusation of anti-social behaviour, and harassment why she was being threatened with eviction.

*** On Friday it sent her a letter formally accusing her of anti-social behaviour, for which she could be evicted. ***

*** It read: “It has been brought to our attention that you have displayed a sign in your window regarding immigrants or perceived immigrants in the
UK. ***

*** “This action could be considered as a hate crime under your tenancy conditions.” ***

*** The association said it defined racist words or insulting graffiti as harassment. ***
But WR they didn't just say please take the poster in your window down because it breaches your tenancy agreement.

They said
//It has been brought to our attention that you have displayed a sign in your window regarding immigrants or perceived immigrants in the UK.
This action could be considered as a hate crime under your tenancy conditions.\\

I wonder if everyone in that area with an election poster in their window has had the same letter.
Also I would like to point out that aog has once again pounced on this news item because the headlines shout out that the council is horror upon horror ''a Labour Council''. I wonder aog if you would have jumped so quickly had the council been tory ?
