I was quite disgusted that in last night news on BBC they were actually talking about compensation that relatives might get and how it might differ depending on their nationalities. Really BBC have come compassion!

Disgraceful isn't it. I'm sure no one would dream of asking for a penny.
In fact it wouldn't surprise me if the BBC had actually downed the plane themselves
of course the families will be asking for compo...bit insensitive to talk of such so soon though....Lufthansa have already admitted guilt ...chief exec said that he slipped through the net and should not have been flying....end of germanwings for sure and perhaps lufthansa ?
Why is this disgusting? The BBC will be reporting the news as it's supposed to do. It was in all the papers yesterday that compensation was being discussed, initiated by Lufthansa, not the BBC.
such is life Prud ! tragic but BBC just doing what they are there to do....
Exactly. The pilot kept important information about his health secret. So Lufthansa are innocent of any blame, and thet are handling the situation well. They have stated that they will sort out compensation. The British media came up with the notion of different levels for different nationalities. Not Lufthansa.
I agree with you, quizzy. Poor taste, imo.
The compensation is part of the story.

The BBC and other news organisations should not decide to omit news just because it is uncomfortable. The compensation aspect has been reported in all the national press, so it is wrong to single out the Beeb for criticism.

// Relatives of those killed on the Germanwings flight have been offered up to £40,000 from Lufthansa immediately, amid speculation they could receive multi-million pound compensation settlements eventually. //

// "If pilot suicide is found to be the cause of Germanwings, then we strongly believe that the airline will be full liable for unlimited compensation, as discussed earlier, to the families. //

Sounds like a storm in a teacup to me. Do folk really think that those distressed at the tragedy is going to be upset at discussing that aspect ? Surely their loss makes such details irrelevant to them for now.
How long do you suggest the BBC wait before reporting news that you find distasteful?
the BBC is there to broadcast news rather than sympathy. For the latter you can turn to family or friends or your church.

I can only imagine that if I'd suddenly lost (say) the guy who'd been bringing in much of the income needed to raise my family, then as well as mourning I'd be worrying about where the money's going to come from to go on living; so I'd be glad of the news.
Can't see a problem with it, if there are differences then we should know why, especially if there are differences between EU countries.
Where there is blame there is a claim, and here the airline have already admitted blame. I can not see how you can be 'disgusted' that compensation is being talked about. It will be paid and it will vary with the nationality of the claiments. Not good but that is how it works.
If it's irrelevant to the people that receive it, og, what possible relevance can it have for the public at large?
Such (delicate) matters are the concern of the bereaved and those liable to pay out. They're not for the 'entertainment' of a load of old ghouls.
Who is entertained by compensation for such a terrible event?

And if there is any hint of unfairness or lack of equality then the World at large needs to be aware.
Svejk, if said compensation leads,to the collapse of the airline then I'd call that news.
Its human nature don't ask me why. We were at a funeral of a wealthy bachelor last week and 'I wonder if he had a will' was discussed more than once.
Whilst having not seen the broadcast Svejk, I can only write generally, but I suspect a lot of relevance to the rest of the world. It is about how these things are dealt with. It is not more upsetting those involved because they are already focused on what is of major importance to them.
Naturally I didn't see it myself, og. Only a mushroom would rely on the BBC for their news. Thank goodness the whole rotten edifice is in it's death throes.
The BBC is in it's 'death throes' ???
