Saw this yesterday so it's a little behind the tragic events that subsequently unfolded in Sydney.
It is still however a great story and whilst I don't partake in Twitter it does at time shave its uses.

A special mention too for those Australians taking part at what is a very difficult time for all.

between this and #putyourbatsout, I think Australia's sense of community shames ours at the moment

My apologies sloop, missed that one.
They took a story about a muslim killing non-muslims and turned it into a future? possible backlash by non-muslims against muslims. Let's all feel sorry for the muslims.
You're just not entering into the spirit of the game, are you, Svejk? Do you need me to send you the rules?
Question Author
Aw c'mon Svejk, it isn't all like that. As is highlighted in the piece it must at times be quite frightening to be a Muslim after a terror attack.
It does speak volumes about ordinary Australians, but maybe the Muslim community as a whole attempts to integrate themselves more into Australian society and culture and embrace it more than they do in other countries, though I genuinely don't know.
sorry. ;)
Sorry but I have to agree to a certain extent with Svejk on this subject. I find it rather condescending to advertise that one is happy to ride with a Muslim after a Muslim has been responsible for the deaths of two innocent people. Baghdad had the hell bombed out of it during Desert Storm. No Muslims advertised the fact they wished to travel with me or forgive me and tell me us infidels are not all the same. I will travel any where I wish in this country and don't need anyone to say they are happy to travel with me and I don't care, either ,who travels with me unless they are carrying a bomb( London 7/7)?? Too ruddy holy moly if you ask me. Hope I am not accused of "not playing by the spirit of the game" My mantra is peace and goodwill and I don't forgive the evil who go against that hope. I know that not all Muslims are evil killers but are we supposed to be good Christians or from whatever religion to show solidarity? Count me out on that score.
Pretty well what I thought after my daughter was at Edgware station when it was bombed retrocop.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Further to above. If I was an Australian I would be happy to carry to carry a sticker saying " Bonzer the Aussie Police.*** good show mates.I would be happy to have you riding by my side and send these bludgers off to an early appointment with the vestal virgins awaiting them"
Sorry I thought the 6 letter word starting with B and ending with Y was now deemed an acceptable word on AB. Obviously I am not playing by the rules either. I wish someone would tell me.
"it must at times be quite frightening to be a Muslim after a terror attack"
not as frighting it is to be a non muslim during one! Sorry all this fawning, if some want to take their tea towels off then great, personally I'd prefer it if they all went and denounced the "religion" completely. Then perhaps these loonies that call themselves "muslims" would see who the real ones are. Yes very laudible by those concerned, I get it, they are not all extremists, great, excellent now start getting rid of your own *** then I'll be impressed.

But that's mostly my point. Why is it that Australia has citizens from different faiths and countries who appear to embrace everything about Oz, the lifestyle, ethos and culture, whereas in Britain we seem to have a fractured society, where multi culturalism has bred loathing and contempt.
Is it through fear and ignorance of the unknown/foreign, combined with a perception that those who want to settle and take advantage of everything the UK has to offer, yet will not adopt our laws and traditions and for some even the language?
Why is Australia so different to UK in that respect?

Chill
I am beginning to believe that the Australians are finding their Muslim guests an annoyance they can well do with out.. This is not the first speech an Australian politician has made on this subject and, indeed,Canadians seem to echo the same sentiment. The only difference is that their politicians have the cajones to state who runs the country and how their immigrants should conform and conduct themselves in the country they have adopted. The Aussies,I believe, are a pretty laid back bunch but are fiercely patriotic and loyal to their homeland. Shame our lefties in this country don't follow suit and stop selling this country down the river with their politcally correct agenda.I would not be at all surprised if the Australian Govt introduce compulsory registration and attendance at a Police Station of all Muslim nationals on a weekly basis so as to keep an eye on them. The Australian government has welcomed and embraced their immigrants but have clearly told them," We don't try to change you and you will not try to change us.You conform to our ways and culture or you have the freedom to leave us". The Aussie patience is certainly not infinite when it comes to interference and terrorism on their home shores. God help any Muslims who don't want to live in peace in future in the country that has embraced them in the past.

Subject: Australia Says NO Again

Australia says NO - Second time she has done this!

Australian Prime Minister does it again!!
This woman should be appointed Queen of the World. Truer words have never been spoken.

It took a lot of courage for this woman to speak, what she had to say for the world to hear. The retribution could be phenomenal, but at least she was willing to take a stand on her and Australia's beliefs.

The whole world needs a leader like this!

> Prime Minister Julia Gillard - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law, were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Gillard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote:
'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society. Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'
'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Question Author
Yep, I concur with that view and the one of Ms Gillard totally.
As you say, the Left have stripped this country of its testicles, to the point where even the Police were very reluctant to tackle grooming by Asian gangs for fear of the race card being played.
I am of the view that if you come here and wish to settle you adopt everything about the country, that means the law of the land, not the law of your religion.
Once again on AB I get to read some very interesting opinions on how this country should be run (and apparently is run) from people on the other side of the world who possibly have never visited let alone lived here for any length of time.
Please keep the bigoted views coming.
Reminds me of Alf Garnet and Eddie.
:-)
Chippy little fellow, ain't you. I'd ask you to point out where any AB bigots have told Australians 'how to run their country or how it is run'. But I know you can't.
Still, from your use of the B word and Alf Garnett as pejorative epithets and 'imagining' what people say/think it's clear that Oz has to endure its own Loony Left.
And yet my daughter was refused to be served in a bar because she's Irish.
