Leaving aside the (admittedly justifiable) mocking tone of the report...would you mistake Westminster Cathedral for a mosque?

people make mistakes - David Lammy tweeted his ire at the crass use of black smoke from the Vatican chimney.

yeah - the colour scheme is the same as the one in Cordoba
Mezquita–catedral de Córdoba

and I think of it every time I pass [ er the one in London ]

( clue - both buildings are cathedrals )
yeah and since we are thinking laterally

Diane Abbott mentioned the Midlothian question ( campaign of 1878-1880 ) when in fact she was talking about the West Lothian question that is vexing current politicians of Scots MPs interfering in matters thatdont concern them
Wasn't the cathedral in Cordoba once one of the grandest mosques in Islam?
Not a very good pic in the link. Didn't even know there was a cathedral, just an Abbey.
Having looked at other images, hand on heart if I didn't know otherwise I would have said that the large tower on the left more than resembles a minaret.
It certainly wouldn't have struck me as a building associated with Christianity.
yeah yeah and in 1970 the populist politician Bella Abzug in Amerikee looking for votes of course - subscribed to the 'Troops out of Dublin ' movement
O god sandy lord love us - mezquita is thpanith for mosque ( or mezjeed in Arabic ) and THAT is why I mentioned it

NB it is also stripey.

as is ( stripey ) the Duomo of Siena but I dont think anyone has tried to face east and pray at midday in that !
Westminster cathedral is the RC cathedral. The Anglican cathedral is St Paul's.
Westminster Abbey is a royal peculiar, over which the bishop has no jurisdiction.
Well I've seen a crib scene in a catholic housing shop with two buddahs in it
Yeah we re talking about the Roman one - stripey it is.... like rock
not Brighton Rock but St Peter's Rock

( pun intended )
The local childrens hospital had a crib without Baby Jesus as one of the medical students on xmas eve thought what fun it would be to nnick it

The crib now has bars on it - and is due to be given an outing later this month !
Greene knew both of them ^
This thread has a delightful out-to-lunch flavour to it
Like it Sandy. Best not explain.
It's certainly wide ranging. UKIP ignorance, the fate of the Grand Mosque after the Christians re-took Spain, Graham Greene, Brighton Rock, Westminster Cathedral.
The answer lies in this "Ukip tweeted back":

Was this an official UKIP responce or just someone who enjoys such sites as Twitter and we all know what some are like on there.

Yes - it looked like a response from UKIP's South Thanet branch. Whoever tweeted must be a UKIP official otherwise they would not have access to the Twitter account.
thank God a breath of common sense from AOG amidst all this frivolity
That is v funny if true.
There's a Catholic Church in Mostar with a ridiculously tall tower, apparently designed to outdo the minarets across the river. It looks ridiculous.
Maybe Westminster Cathedral was designed to fool the UKIP of the future ...

Thanks for that sp I should have read the report more closely.

But wair a minute I have just read the report again and I can see no mention of the words "Ukip tweeted back" so that leads me to believe the report has since been updated.
