I'm not excusing what he did, but he needs a job. Should he stay on the dole forever? If he got work as a road sweeper or in a chip shop, would we be bothered? Why shouldn't he work in a decent restaurant? It doesn't sound as if he is a habitual preyer on young girls, and he made a terrible mistake through lack of maturity.

I presume you are asking for opinions though you don't say so.

I feel that this young man hopefully if given a chance in life may be able to make an upright citizen and this is no way takes away from what he did and has served time for.

If the alternative is to make people like him outcasts then the chance of them falling into bad ways increases in my view.

Yes Mamya, I thought it would be interesting to read ABers' opinions on a topic other than Judy Finnigan.

Personally I hope that the young man will be allowed to put his past behind him and forge a successful career.
Whilst I am all for giving people another chance,I feel that paedophiles are almost impossible to rehabilitate,as according to medical opinion this is a condition which cannot be cured.
So taking the young man in the article, what would be your (legal) suggestion?
Quote from a JO spokesman.

"David was completely honest about his past when he applied for the course and we decided that, as he'd served his sentence, he should be allowed a place on the programme''.

I agree, but what's the difference between him, and the footballer coming out of prison for rape, who has had the opposite reaction?

I'm only asking a Q, not making a statement.
Nothing as I stated on the other threads - the footballers future lies in the hands of those who ware prepared employ him.
I must be a really horrid person.. the thought of working beside or eating food prepared by a rapist or paedophile makes my skin crawl..
So this young man and others like him comes out of prison and......?

Mamya...my answer to that wouldn't be acceptable....my views on this have become harder as the years have passed.
its not just about "doing the time" for paedophilia unfortunately. It's a sexual preference. It purely depends on how much a person is determined to fight against their own "needs" to keep a child safe. All sorts of programmes should be in place after every incumbent is released back into society.

Gness I understand and am trying to be reasonable- of course each case is different.

I also agree there should be programmes in place to try in some way to sort this if possible. Some will be unsaveable others may be as this lad was reported to be , very immature and naive to say the least.

I am not sure there is one answer fits all.

*sigh*......seems like this maybe wasn't such a good idea after all......rape is rape is rape, as has been mentioned countless times over the past couple of days, but dare I just mention that he was 19, and she was 12.
There is no way on this earth I would try to excuse what he did and of course if a psychological report indicated he was a likely serial offender then maybe the case would be different.

I repeat ,each case is different.
Mamya....I do try hard to see all sides...to believe men like this can reform.....I just can't...

I once knew a man who raped a child and assaulted others....he was sent to prison...not for very long I think.....

His family forgave him....he just couldn't help himself....so they moved to start a fresh life....hundreds of miles away....

Luckily for him they moved next door to a couple with a little girl.....the couple were pleased to have such nice neighbours...willing to babysit and take the little girl on outings.......but not as pleased as the paedophile......

I can't sleep....think I'll go and burn my one and only Jamie Oliver cook book.......☺
In answer to your question Mamya......I really don't know.

Hopefully he will be on some sort of register and a close watch will be kept on him.

If one accepts medical opinion that this medical condition cannot be cured then I honestly don't know what the answer is. This problem baffles many much more knowledgeable experts than I am.
Thishttp://www.impartialreporter.com/news/roundup/articles/2014/10/16/406812-notorious-paedophile-admits-looking-up-schoolgirls-skirts-/ is a paedophile from experience who will NOT change his ways
''##There is no way on this earth I would try to excuse what he did and of course if a psychological report indicated he was a likely serial offender then maybe the case would be different. ##

Can anybody remember the case of the above?
We are not talking about a dirty old man, but a 19 year old lad, who got carried away. There is no evidence that he is a serial paedophile, and we don't know all the details of this particular case. If he reoffends he will go back to prison, but if not he will be rehabilitated.
SirOracle, it doesn't seem that he has a medical condition. He made a mistake when he was nineteen. He was immature. He does not prey on young girls.

I can understand people not wanting him to work in a school or hospital, but why shouldn't he work in a restaurant kitchen?
