None I guess, which is why new legislation is required.

These days we seem to lag behind the real world, both in our inability to deal with 'new' problems from both terrorism and technology.
None but maybe it will take a few months to de-radicalize them all and/or extract as much intelligence as possible. Wishful thinking...

Yes but surely there is a limited time that they can be held in custody without being charged?

For security reasons they wouldn't automatically publish the evidence. I already think there is too much on the news about the intended strategy against IS.
leaving the country with the intention of aiding terrorism
( or something )
that was in the latest Terrorism Act.

That was the one where they wanted to hold them for an icredible time without trial - 72 days I think and Parliament said no.

Arresting someone and then saying "oo er we will prosecute when we have passed a suitable law" is NOT part of English law not should it be

People need to know what the list of crimes is
annd not be subject to post facto legislation

( altho that has occurred under strong protest - Burmah Oil Act 1964, War Crimes Act 1994 and indemnification of the Clay Cross Councillors in 1972 over which the then attorney general resigned )

so she may have said:
///"I would expect to be able to bring legislation before the end of November." ///
but that doesnt affect the current crop of detainees
The limits on a person being held in custody without charge are stated here:

However, despite the reference to proposed legislation in your link, AOG, the Terrorism Act 2000 (as amended by later legislation, in particular the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008) already allows charges to be brought against people suspected of committing offences under UK law whilst abroad.

Once a suspect has been charged with any offence (from minor shoplifting through to multiple murder) the police (in the first instance) and the courts are obliged to grant bail unless there is a specific reason why bail shouldn't be granted (such as the seriousness of the alleged offence, the likelihood that that the person charged might abscond or the likelihood that they might commit offences while on bail).

It's likely that the people arrested (as per your Daily Mirror report) will have been charged and either refused bail or made subject to very rerstrictive bail conditions. (i.e. any proposed legislation is entirely irrelevant).

Thank you for your detailed explanation.
Mpazzam Begg an extremely dangerous fundamentalist was acquitted this evening of all charges
and AOG as a reasonable man you must be wondering why

I certainly am. [ news item today ]

He was also held without charge for a few years in Guantanamo- guaranteed by its torturing inmates to make one an extremist on exit even if one wasnt on entry

This extremely dangerous man and subverter of youths was also active in Syria. So why was he acquitted and what was the nature of the new evidence that the CPS said - if we knew what we know now, we would never have charged him ?

Good question - will we ever know ?
how much easier it would have been to shut this innocent man away for ever with no charge

It seems to have been connected with British complicity in rendition and torture. But I thought that was easy nowadays - the CPS just says: 'I'm sorry you cant plead that '. [ state security etc ]
