oh, they say this sort of thing from time to time, but the Israelis know they don't really mean it and won't do anything about it, so they just carry on.

Israel gets $3 billion a year from the USA, and it's basically with no strings attached.
Sadly, jno's answer is true. If you want to see an example of the tail wagging the dog you need look no further than the relationship between Israel and the USA.
Mikey, they were never on the fence. The post from ‘bert_h’ on another thread sums it up perfectly.

//Yes, because those are just words. They know that if they said the reverse, it would put them in a bad relation with the Arabs who all support Hamas. They know that Israel can ignore what they say, because the Israelis understand why they have to say it.//
Yes,pure rhetoric.Israel is determined to plough on doing 'what they feel is necessary' knowing full well that they have guaranteed support from the US.As stated before, there are no prospects for an end to all of this.I know Mikey you gave us the benefit of your 'prediction' of how all this would result but really it was far from earth shattering was it?
and yet, no condemnation from british government ?
Obama can always be relied upon to come up with the right words....but nothing more.
anne - UK is waiting instructions from US.
Wharton, I don't doubt that.......but their silence is deafening, im ashamed of them.

The same article Naomi posted confirms Cameron's position Anne...
It does indeed.
In deed it doesn't.
no it does not....he signed a piece of paper, where is his actual condemnation of the situation ?
It does indeed. //David Cameron has not condemned Israel's Military action.//

David Cameron has not condemned Israel's military action, while his official spokesman has said that the key to resolving the conflict is for Hamas to stop firing rockets into Israel
A lame duck President.
A completely useless Secretary of State.
No wonder Israel feels carte blanche to do genocide.

Netanyahu should face a war crimes court but won't.
Usually, the comments section of Israel/Gaza news stories contains at least one conspiracist, who claims that [famous International Finance Company] or [bank] has the POTUS's nads in a vice. Israel is more than their best friend, it's their sugar daddy. Play ball or get no more pocket money.

All rather fanciful and unprovable, of course and we don't have any of these types on AB, so we've been spared the intolerable "I told you so" smugness.

As I'm often chided: "nothing good ever comes from reading the comments section".
