because they can't just call them scum - they have to give them grand titles to make them seem more important than they really are, at the end of a day they are dirty, money grubbing, bastards

big problem, that if people didn't take recreational drugs, cocaine, heroin,
and what ever else they can shove up their nose, down their gullet, into their bodies, they wouldn't exist.
Never understood why governments call people 'drugs tsar' or 'crime tsar'. Thought Tsars were considered to be vile dictators.
But your point's well-taken. We should call them drug dealing scum or child killers.
And it's an interesting disconnect between the way normal people speak and the way the media and politicians speak. Never heard anyone in a pub or café refer to a local drugs baron or drugs lord.
a drug dealer isn't a drug baron. The lords are the ones who have a lot of people working for them; they make all the money while the underlings take all the risk. That's how it always has been with lords, so the term is apt.

A drug baron in South America may well have better qualifications for the title than Baron Mark Thatcher... you decide.
Its only hyperbole ratter ! They are still scum, whatever we call them.
Barons and Lords have always been people who ruthlessly exploit "lower classes" for their own enrichment - so what's the problem ?
Never seen a 'joy-rider' bring anything but cost, misery, pain and sometimes death.
There's also drug Tsars, don't forget about them.
