i have been following this awful story, seems that the captain was not at the helm,

Just seen this on the news and why on earth were they told to stay where they were and not make for the life boats, a terrible disaster.

don't know why that happened, stay where they were, what a nightmare

too similar to the Costa Concordia, no lessons are ever learned it would seem

i understand, what a tragedy, many were students, their parents must be frantic. some received texts from their children, its quite harrowing

Well I suppose the Captain can't be at the helm 24/7, but to get of the ship while the passengers were still on board is just shocking, again!
Wonder what his excuse will be?

I heard the captain has been arrested.
Saw on the news last night a 6 year old child in a hospital bed, her parents and older sibling(s) are missing and she hasn't been told yet.
Heart-breaking for so many people.

too many, i read some of the texts the children had sent to parents, heartbreaking.

The Captain is not the only person on a ship that can "take the helm"

The captain was on the news last night - utterly distraught and saying that in leaving the ship he'd done an unforgivable thing.

Most of the lifeboats weren't launched, and someone told passengers over the public address system to stay in their cabins, but I've not heard who that was. Clearly the scale of the disaster was grossly under-estimated.

It seemed obvious that 300 youngsters had lost their lives a day or so ago but everyone was in denial

including the captain - who survived when the kids he was meant to protect hadnt.

+ Does any one remember the Laconia disaster 1964 ?
I think the captain there stayed and tried to put the fire out.

This one - giving up and taking to the boats when there are kids below needing assistance - as he said - Doing that was an unforggiveable thing

They read the transcript on Sky News, the authorities told him to tell passengers to put life jackets on and get ready to evacuate, he waited half an hour to do it. What possessed him to delay? :(

rocky don't know, nor why the captain left, the tx messages to the parents about how much they loved them, must be similar to those sent by people in the twin towers, dreadful
