Yes, DrFilth, I agree with you. I live up north, and, although I haven't seen any rats (not for some time, anyway) I think that it would be a good idea if the good Lord also provided us with shotguns to despatch the creatures. One never knows, we might find other uses for the shotguns if the rats don't show themselves.

Well, DrFilth, it all depends on what your purpose in despatching the rat is. If you simply want to be rid of the thing, and don't mind a bit of a mess, I would go for a .177. However, if you propose to serve the creature up for your dinner guests, a .22 would do a neater job. The bullet hole in the head could be a talking point, I suppose.
