A half marathon scheduled for today in Sheffield had been cancelled due to lack of drinking water. The runners ran despite it being cancelled.

Let's hope there's enough water for the boat race.

the organisers are being roundly condemned by everybody as being utterly incompetent. if they really were (as they claim) let down by their supplier, why aren't they naming and shaming them? could it be that the fault is not with their supplier at all?

Possibly, if there's enough water to swim in.
Any reports of dehydration, heatstroke or even a dry mouth?

Medical-and-safety my bottom.
the police set up roadblocks to stop the runners ;o)
Isn't it strange how people nowadays don't get thirsty and have to quench their thirst with a drink. Instead it's: "OMG, I'm like so dehydrated;I'm going to have to hydrate myself with this handy bottle of electrolyte-filled fluid."

What's wrong with tap water?
What's wrong with bringing your own......?
I expect H&S will get clobbered as usual, although it's the Blame and Claim brigade who are really the rogue element as the organisers were obviously terrified of possible claims from dehydrated runners.
The individual runners ran anyway, so it can't have been too big a deal for them.
boxtops, I imagine you wouldn't bring your own if you'd been told it was being provided.
Pathetic! The proverbial 'brewery' doesn't come into it.

Oh the diddums, they couldn't run 13 miles without access to water, not allowing folk were bringing it out from their homes and local stores.....this is so modern Britain and pathetic (HSE I bet). Disgraceful.
DT, have you really thought about what you've written?
Johnny Foreigner must be laughing his head off.

You couldn't make it up could you?
Yes - it's an indictment on the organisers, naomi, and their preoccupation with HSE. Most if not all of the runners would have gone round the course, as many chose to do so, without water - and many locals were prepared to turn out and offer product from their tap or local Spar/Morrisons (good on them).

Truth be told the local Brown Ale may have gone down better at the point that they cancelled the event.
DT, Yes, it is an indictment on the organisers. No 'diddums' about it!
Disagree - the organisers took a 'Diddums' attitude to the runners and that's pathetic.
