OH NO, it's getting really bad now, what a shame.
It's a most popular headline though, judging by the 'related questions'.
Its about time the government changed the rules. If as seems likely its all the fault of internet companies changing the way consumers buy goods rather than popping along to the high street.

Amazon etc can afford to offer lower prices if through clever accounting they can avoid taxes such as corporation tax. Why don't they get taxed at source where the goods are bought?
It is a shame but that kind of business was always going to have a short shelf-life unless it branched into other areas. 10-15 years ago I'd be picking out videos up to 4 times a week. I haven't rented a film from a store for years now, who has?
This is all to do with badly run companies, nothing to do with tax or anything else.

these companies have had years to see the how the purchasing of and accquisiton of media has been changing, ie: its all becoming streamable and or downloadable one way or another.

but instead of changing and adapting their business model to suit theyve just carried on regardles, with expensive high street shops and all the related costs of selling a product you actually pick up in your hands and take to a cash point staffed by a real person.

you can bet your bottom dollar none of the bosses will suffer but as usual the people at the bottom will lose their jobs etc all because the people at the top were totally clueless about the market they were in and or didnt or wouldnt change to adapt to an evolving market.
