Totally off topic again, but have to agree with SP....
" namely the persistent trend in dumming down television." Cracked me up! Sorry! |

From the way it's reported, it does[i appear to be a case of over-sensitivity, but it's understandable with that programme, because it has a history of some pretty ugly scenes.
I say, what's the point of the programme (apart from entertainment) if not as a form of social experiment to see how strangers get on in an artificial environment. I think it would be a [i]much[i] more interesting programme if, say, they had a glamour model, a EDL supporter and Muslim cleric, a vicar, a call centre worker, a member of the aristocrasy etc...just to see how their social interactions worked and whether they could get on. Now [i]that] would get me tuning in. |

Wow...
'aristocrasy'??? It appears to be catching. |

Shame sp

To accuse someone of being culturally insensitive or possibly racist for stating something that is factually correct is quite extraordinary. The discussion was about a particular person eating with her hands rather than using a spoon. One of the people having this discussion (Scot) quite rightly pointed out that in Indian culture, it is common practise to eat with your hand. This remark was not racist in any way. It is normal behaviour in India to eat food with your right hand and without cutlery. I know because I been there, seen it and done it.
I was initially amazed by the ignorance of 'Big Brother' for reprimanding Scot for his (factual) comments. Then I remembered that BB is run almost entirely by media graduates in their 20s and 30s whose knowledge of cultures outside of their own is somewhat limited – proven by their abject ignorance of Indian culture. http:// |

/// I think it would be a much more interesting programme if, say, they had a glamour model, a EDL supporter and Muslim cleric, a vicar, a call centre worker, a member of the aristocrasy etc.. /// Wow sp, are you harking back to gladiatorial days in the Colosseum? Would you care to draft out a short scenario of how things would materialise? |

I haveno idea - that's what would make it interesting...especially if people overcame thir differences, and simply took each other as individuals. |
|
this is stupid. ..nearly everyone who comes to dinner at my house eats mainly with their hands .... does that mean im racist too? its an observation. I eat with my hands a lot, mainly cos at other peoples houses i get given bread and no utensils .... is that being racist as well?
saves on washing up anyhows ;) |

This scrutinising every comment someone makes just in case there might be a whiff of alleged racism is getting ridiculous. Some people are obsessed with it, I'm sick of hearing about it! You would think it's the worst crime in the world, worse than rape and child abuse the way some people go on about it. People have and always will always make comments about the behaviour of different peoples and cultures and long may they be allowed to and if it upsets some, so what? Everyone is allowed an opinion, get over it!
