I have read through that three times, and still can't understand why he is ranting on. He is a northerner, don't they settle in London, have jobs in the City, or elsewhere in the capital. Seems a disgruntled individual with an axe to grind.

So, D9, give us a single example from the article of anything the writer "tells us how WONDERFUL it is oop North". The whole blessed point of his rant is to explain how utterly TERRIBLE it is up north nowadays as a result (he claims) of London's malign influence on life and work there!
I'm not saying I agree with him, but I fail to see your point completely.
