The Olympics

I wouldn't fancy living here if they did decide to do this. Surely a target for terrorists.

Why are we hosting the Olympics if it is such a threat?

At the end of the day it is just a competition of sport, we dont need it, we cant afford it!!
Question Author
ratter, did you read the link?
Question Author
wouldn't fancy my chances if they put one of these on our roof.
Yes,em10 I did, and?
I thought this, now every terrorist knows where them missiles are. I wouldn't be happy if they were on my roof.

Any big thing in Britain is going to attract the attention of loonies. But I don't see why we should stop doing anything just to let them have their way.
Question Author
jno
i didn't see that until just now.
ratter the Olympics is going ahead, they could hardly cancel.
I was referring to having missiles on the roof of someone's home, seems
a bit of a foolish thing to do. Why not locate them on ground that hasn't too many people around, or any people for that matter.
em, Im sure the military bigwigs have thought of that but there are probably reasons for not going in that direction. It does sound the most obvious thing to do.
I expect it's because they have to be near the presumed target.

I don't know who they're expecting to launch an air attack, though. The Luftwaffe don't really do that sort of thing any more.
What a nightmare for the people who live their, I bet they won't be able to go about their business freely, their visitors will be searched etc. I wouldn't like it one bit.
Question Author
joking aside, would you want something like that on your home. Besides we have already seen how easy it would be for terrorists to strike. And the Olympics will be a prime target
Bugger! there.
Question Author
rockyr any reason for the bugger
Question Author
oh i see now, sorry..
Yes em I have already raised this issue.

But you asked "Why not locate them on ground that hasn't too many people around, or any people for that matter".

Well get ready you won't believe this, I heard on the radio that they did consider locating them in an area of natural beauty that being an area were a particular rare species of wild plant grows, but they decided against this place so as to protect this plant.

That's typically English, we would rather protect a wild plant, but are not bothered about placing these high explosive devices on top of the heads of humans.

And has anyone considered the implications if they have to use these missiles in a crowded city such as London? Not a particular threat to the tower block residents, but lethal to those a few miles away living underneath the fall-out of these devices.

Then of course if a high-jacked airliner with passengers on board happened to enter our air space what then, would they shoot it down over a crowded city?

/// I don't know who they're expecting to launch an air attack, though. The Luftwaffe don't really do that sort of thing any more. ///

Now lets think er? No it wasn't the Luftwaffe who smashed their planes into the Twin-Towers either, so who are they expecting?
Question Author
AOG, i have considered any number of scenarios seeing how we live in the capital. what would happen if these ground to air missiles were fired, the plane or whatever object they were firing at would come crashing down, scattering debris over miles, with such a built up city it's unlikely there wouldn't be casualties. You only have to look at what happened at Lockerbie to see how that could pan out.
I suppose the common people are considered expendable in these circumstances.
Question Author
it would be a threat to the tower block if terrorists are aware they are there and try and blow them up?
I can't believe people can be so naive.
