[i] I have two gay friends (male) who have adopted two little children – and those kids couldn’t be more loved. [i]

Why do some wish to quote personal friends when try to make their point?

I am sure your two gay friends love their kids (because you have said so), but what has that got to do with Elton John and his partner's proposed family?

/// aog, see my post at the top of this page regarding italics ///

Thsank you, I have done and it still doesn't.
It's the brackets inside your quotes that are stopping the italics working.

/// No need for history books, AOG. Kids still live at Eton whilst their parents live abroad. ///

And they are still making the Empire great are they?
AOG, //Why do some wish to quote personal friends when try to make their point? //

Err .. personal experience of a gay couple's proven ability to care for their children responsibly?

//what has that got to do with Elton John and his partner's proposed family? //

Quite a lot I would have thought, bearing in mind the negative assumptions that have gone before.
What a daft thing to say, AOG. What we've seen in life helps form our opinions.
The 09.37 post by missprim is one of a very few that addresses the question in the right attitude.

All too often we have questions regarding such subjects as homosexuality, race and immigration, but very few people can address these issues without the need to attack anyone who has a different opinion to themselves, in most cases out will come those overused words homophobic, racist, Xenophobia all used in an attempt to stifle criticism and debate.
AOG, //The 09.37 post by missprim is one of a very few that addresses the question in the right attitude.//

I think I've addressed the question with the right attitude - or don't you think so because I haven't criticised Elton John et al?

ummmm

/// What a daft thing to say, AOG. What we've seen in life helps form our opinions. ///

Here's another daft thing to say then.

"I don't know why everyone is criticising Dr Shipman, my Doctor is perfectly ok"
How boring would threads be if we only answered the OP and not each other?

I don't know why everyone is criticising Dr Shipman, my Doctor is perfectly ok

Now you really are being daft.

It is not a fact that one needs to criticise Elton John, it is the attitude taken by some against those who happen to do so.

Don't you find it interesting that so many (perhaps the majority) of respondants actually support Sir Elton and Mr Furnish's wish to expand their family.

New Judge was being sarcastic with his Mr & Mrs line - the inference that in a gay relationship, one man must be 'the woman'. It should not be taken seriously.

Regarding the use of the word 'homophobia' in these discussions - it is correct.

If the only factor which informs your opinion on their suitability as parents is their sexuality (rather than their economic status, drug-taking past, time-consuming jobs etc), and you have nothing to back up your stance that a man/woman partnership raises happier, functional children - then you're being homophobic.

The only way you could prove that you're NOT being homophobic is to point to studies which support your argument.

There aren't any.

Put the following into a Google search:

"studies into gay parenting"

Thank you Chuck, tried it both ways just to see which way works, noticed the AB Editor made a remark about it, but it seems he has removed it along with some others.
In the same way the word gay has been hijacked so has the word homophobic.

Just because some people dont happen to agree with certain things or have a different opinion to a lot of the handwringers on here they are accused of being gay haters, or homophobic.

No, they just dont agree with it, doesnt mean they hate gays or have some sort of phobia about anything
Are you ending the quote with [i], AOG?
That's nice to know Baz, it so often doesn't come across that way.
I cannot think of anything more "normal" than two gays wanting another child for their adopted one to play with.

They (he) will soon forget the pain of childbirth as they (he) cuddles the neonate and i wish them well in their quest.

Yes........both "offspring" will be well cared for and that I am told is the important factor.
