'Beautiful Woman' weeps over Internet vitriol

What are people's views on the journalist Samantha Brick who wrote a piece in yesterday's Daily Mail advising that women dislike / hate / fear her because she is so beautiful.

Today, she is an Internet and Twitter sensation thanks to the sheer volume of negative comment she has received -

The irony for most people is that Ms. Brick is really not that attractive at all, and she is doubly damned for her egotistical view of herself.

So - let's not simply replicate the comments thus far, but consider the issue of beautiful women and the help / hindrance looks can be in our appearence-obsessed culture.

Calling her ugly, stupid and a b*tch is unacceptable...but if a woman writes an article where she bemoans the fact that she's treated differently because she's so beautiful and she's NOT, then she better expect an almighty amount of ribbing.

She looks frumpy and lumpy...and that was her done up for the cameras!

i suspect any attention she gets is down to men thinking she may be 'up for it' rather that her beauty. she clearly thinks shes stunning and it prbably shows in the way she walks, talks, looks at people etc... probably the cliched glamourpuss act ... we all know people like that.. it is a shame it has become so addled in her head though.
as for her point...yes looks can affect working and peraonal relationships, jealosy, paranoia, etc happen to lots of people... i have had it happen to me ... friends convince thenselves that their man fancies me (not just me) but rather than deal with the man, they simply remove the perceived threat. also had workmates treating me badly for irrational reasons, which could be down to that - thing is though, i am most certainly no stunner... i am averagely pretty... but no head turner...
so she probably has had some expereinces of it, especially in the industtry she is in- i am in the same industry so i know how bitchy and cimpetetive it can be - but has decided to atribute them all to her looks rather than possible other reasons
she is extremely arrogant with her comments

Just a thought, I wonder if she would have got the same response if she happened to be a Black Lady?

And even if that Black Lady had received exactly the same abuse on the Twitter site also, I wonder if she would have then got more support that this particular Lady appears to have received on AnswerBank?

You will find that a number of posters have, shall we say, issues that are dear to them, and they will bring them to debates where clearly there is no reference to colour or ethnicity.

This is a feature of the way the AB works - you get sensible answers, nonsensical answers, and answers with an agenda behind them. Please feel free to pitch in if you take issue with the irrelavence of any post you see - it adds to the debate.

So being a stickler for a level playing field, hence the post that is confusing both you and friedgreentomato who can be forgiven because of his or her newness.

You're being a little naughty there. Your post regarding whether the posts were vile enough to get the police involved could easily be construed as a reference to the recent Twitter racism rows.

Also, I was right to show the comparison between what Liam Stacey had written and this case, because you'd asked whether the responses back other were vile enough. My links showed what REAL venality looks like.

Have a look at any story where she's opened her mouth and stuck her foot in it, and then check responses online blogs, the press, etc etc...

I have no idea where the idea behind yesterday's article came from, I read the DM a lot and frankly many of the articles in the 'femail' section get the 'What The Funicular' response, although not quite to this extent.

It is clear the article today is simply the daily mail cashing in on the attention while they have it, and who wouldn't.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that Brick has a book about to be released or some other venture which would pay of nicely with a bit of world wide publicity. I also would put money on both articles being heavily edited to ensure they had maximum effect.

If all these things published really are her true feelings than I feel its far more likely she has simply been mis reading the situation and people avoid her because she is actually just quite an unpleasant, self centered woman, lets face it she is a very average looking woman. I think most of us would have met someone we consider stunningly beautiful at some point but as long as they've been decent people with it, we've not snubbed them because we are so bitterly envious of their aesthetics.
