This sounds like one individual's ignorance, which backs up your first thought above

Well spotted paul..... Muslims I know are the same as anyone else. Some would find it offensive, some wouldn't find it offensive but would be embarassed by it, some don't care so long as its discrete and a couple 'try to cop an eyefull' no idea what the rest would think as I just included ones I have had the breastfeeding in public convo with.

Hang on - I think it's a little more dodgy than that. I read the story in the Mail, and what they did was make up a link to Muslims, I suspect because that's the narrative the paper has been following for the past few years. From what I recall, the mother in question was reportedly told by someone who worked there that "it's a multicultural building". The Daily Mail then translated that into to mean that Oldham council have a policy of not allowing breastfeeding in its buildings so as not to offend Muslims. This was extrapolated from something that one council worker said - and that person didn't mention any specific religion. |

There's a game I sometimes play when reading links to the Daily Mail...you read the story, and then try to work out what the ACTUAL story is, but without the spin.
Best to start off with the easy stories, where the spin is pretty obvious: Gays/lesbians Muslims The BBC Gordon Brown Travellers Social workers The EU |

Question Author
Gromit, this was more with reference to the supposed reason than the act of it.
SP - the same headline was in the Metro and it seems it was the mother who instigated the 'it was the Muslims' link, apparently the woman who worked there said "You've caused uproar in there", to which the mother said "she must have been talking about the Asian women in there". Although it makes you wonder why two papers reporting the same story with the same headline take two different slants on it.... well it doesn't make you wonder... |

I find these sort of stories much more offensive than a "woman breastfeeding" story.
Unfortunately they are all far too common in our "multicultural" society. http://www.bbc.co.uk/...d-birmingham-14142991 |

that's got absolutely nothing to do with the OP VHG, you cant compare honour killings with breastfeeding
