US Presidential Elections

WHAT IF (God forbid) something happened to either nominee prior to the elections - who would then be the replacement nominee?

In John MacCain's case, Sarah Palin.
In Barak Obama's case, Hillary Clinton.

It wouldn't make any difference to the political outcome as in both cases the 'second choice' candidates have similar views and policies to the actual running candidates.

The party in question would have to choose somebody. I rather doubt, myself, that anybody would choose Mrs Palin. It certainly wouldn't be an automatic thing. Of course if McCain wins the election then dies, even before being inaugurated, then the world gets President Palin.

As for Obama, I guess the party would go for HC as Jock says. Dunno about similar views and policies, though.

Thanks Tom, I figured as much. I still find it hard to fathom the length of US elections not to mention the money side of things.
