Who can remember Social webpage Moderators? - These guys were on most social pages in the early to mid- Nineties and could swiftly 'kick' you off should you swear, use foul or inappropriate language or make racist comments etc., etc.....

My question is: Why can't the Government persuade Facebook & Twitter etc., to engage moderators to monitor all social groomers, and terrorist groups etc.,using social media to meet their own ends instead of the apparent covert monitoring carried out by police staff? These could report first and then 'block' such people from using FB & Twitter etc....permanently!

You can't permanently block anyone from any website. They simply need a new username and email address to re-register under a different name. (A few websites might also monitor IP addresses but you can change your IP address simply by switching off your router and then turning it back on again, or by routing your internet traffic over the Tor network).

The use of moderators only works when you can be sure that most posts will be seen by at least one of them. AB, for example, probably has no more than a few hundred regular users, plus some casual visitors. Each of them probably only posts a few times per day, at the very most. So roughly 15 moderators can keep an eye on things reasonably well.

Facebook, however, has about 1½ billion users, many of whom might post dozens (or hundreds) of times per day. So where would all of the moderators come from?

I guess I've fallen out of date with the numbers involved but surely these don't all use a handful of servers? No doubt they'll have massive banks of them!
I do feel that FB & Others should be accountable for what is said or implied on their pages regardless of the numbers of users. If they can't handle that, then they're too big!
After all, if you enter a shopping mall or public place using foul language- you will usually be ejected or even charged with an offence!
That's my rant for tonight Buenchico! -I will read here in the morning and try to extinguish my flames when I'm shot down!!
Can you imagine the number of staff & cost it would take?
