Before you consider setting up a guitar, you need to establish what you want to do with it musically. If you like modern jazz the optimum setup is likely to be different from rock or blues. The action may be different for various styles, also strings (rounds or flats), will you do blistering rock solos or gently strum folk?

If you intend to concentrate mainly on one style you can get the best out of it for that style. If you want an all rounder, there may be a little compromise.

Just google how to set up an electric guitar and pages are there to help. But beware, some may require filing bits of bridge off etc which should definitely be left to an expert.

It may be worth getting it done professionally. Not cheap but if they screw it up, you don't have to buy a brand new guitar. Enquire about prices first is my advice.
