Paul Anka and J. Revaux wrote the lyrics
Forgot to add that it was a French song, translated into English
It was originally recorded as Comme d'Habitude ("As Usual") by Claude Francois in 1967. Francois co-wrote both the music and the original French lyrics - the music with Jacques Revaux, the lyrics with Gilles Thibaut.
Paul Anka heard the song, liked it, and wrote English lyrics to it. The English lyrics are not a translation though, and have nothing to do with the original version.

And the story behind the song is that a French sailor called Didier Nolisten nearly sank the boat he was on by lifting the anchor whilst they were in a storm near some rocks off the coast of Africa
When questioned about this he replied.." I Pull Anchor, I did it My Way"
The rest is history

The last post is complete rubbish. It was a Milky Way. Milky Way had too many syllables so it became My Way. Fact.
