As title. Drives OK. If your light on the go fast pedal it's OK, speed increases, in all gears. If you give it a bit of normal exceleration clutch change gear, there's a clattering noise from the engine ( Do diesels suffer from pinking? ) in all gears. If parked up and you rev the engine there's no clattering noise. One search points to a clogged EGR valve. Any ideas please TIA

You can get a Diesel Knock Bob, or the Timing chain is either slack and need adjustment or replacing, what's the mileage? you said when you rev the engine it goes, the chain is also under strain when you increase revs so that would stop the rattle.

TWR. There's none of the noise when stationary and you rev the engine in neutral. It only happens when excelerating to change gear, as one would normally drive. But as said if your light on the excelerator pedal it not there
Could be the alternator belt rattling in the cover. Happened to me once with my Mondeo TDCI ST. Drove me nuts on turn over, sounding like a bag of spanners. Re aligned the cover, 2 minute job, and all was quiet again.
