I'm worried as I haven't seen him bringing food to the nest all week. OK I'm not watching it every minute but I go in several times a day. She had to leave the nest and hunt herself yesterday and I was terrified for the babies. She seems to be looking for him all the time. Anybody know when he was last seen? I hope it's just me missing him.
Please put me out of my misery:-(

I see mum has brought food back after leaving the nest for about 10 minutes OG. Only two are getting fed though, the third can't seem to get itself facing the right way poor thing. Still no daddy - where is the daddy?
Unfortunately there is a similar situation with the loch garden ospreys - the male appears to have abandoned the female and chicks

What shame Toorak, he's been such a good dad as well over the years I believe. I take it mum hasn't risked leaving her young to hunt for food then, especially as the nests been attacked. How sad.
My heart is in my mouth every time Ma Goshawk leaves the nest to get food but I suppose the alternative is certain death by starvation if she doesn't.
Feeding time just now.

I saw the male on the nest yesterday. he doesn't hang around when the Mrs shows up. She's scary!

The situation at Loch Garten is so upsetting. I can't watch it.

It's awful Tilly, I've been watching it. I saw her take a dead chick away and dispose of it. I hope Odin isn't dead but just scared away. Terribly sad situation, you so want to help.

Thanks I'm relieved to hear the daddy is around in NF. He can't be bringing enough food as she's been going out hunting herself.
What is happening at loch garten is so sad - I think there is only one surviving chick left.

That's my understanding as well Toorak:-(
LB, have you seen the blogs from Loch Garten?

I saw Mrs Goshawk pick up another little bird from the edge of the nest yesterday. I seemed to have been left there for later.
The male looks like a Goshawk. He is very barred, not speckled like the female.

I have just had a look and the surviving chick is crying out desperately for food - i don't think I can watch any more.
That chick is doomed too, I fear.
I stopped watching it on Friday.
I think you are right Tilly :-(
Yes - it must have been an agonising decision for them
Question Author
Yes I have Tilly and they are heartbreaking. I read she was pleading with the interloper to fetch fish but he brought a twig! She will have to feed soon herself so I wish she'd risk it and go, she has nothing to lose and might just save the last baby. But I understand Ospreys don't do that unlike our Goshawk mum.
It's hard isn't it Toorak.
Apparently EJ, the female osprey, is twenty years old. Amazing!
Even if she does fish for herself, she will find it difficult to rear that osplet alone.
Unfortunate, but if providing a successful breeding/living area, I suppose ultimately inevitable as one generation replaces the previous.
