Does anyone actually like the Ukraine winning entry in Eurovision? In my opinion it is the worst song ever - the lyrics are horrible too - all political about ethnic cleansing. The tune was awful - Russia was my favourite and Australia should not even have been there - as not in Europe.

The majority of those who voted in the UK voted mainly for Lithuania, Anne! The 2nd highest viewer vote throughout Europe went to the winners. One man's meat, etc.

Sorry Ann, gotta disagree on Europe poiint

///Eurovision, is the longest-running annual international TV song competition, held, primarily, among the member countries of the
European Broadcasting Union since 1956///

Didn't watch the show, Ann. But I have watched the song on YouTube. It's the usual Euro crap rubbish to me imo.
Didn't like the winning song at all.

Yet again it has to be pointed out that it is not The European Song conyest.

^ Contest, sorry.
Ann, the worst song ever? Do you mean of any song or in Eurovision? There have been a lot of songs since 1956!

Australia not in Europe is irrelevant as neither is Israel who have won three times but, as has been pointed out, it is not a European contest.

As for the winner, the most emotional song of the night. I quite liked it. Yes, lyrically it refers to Stalin's cleansing of Crimean Tatars from their homeland, which was bound to irk Russia, but there have been many songs in the past which will offend. I mentioned on another thread that the 1976 Greek entry was a blast at Turkey for invading Cyprus the year before.

Since when has Eurovision not been political?
Because of the controversy of the 1944 song, I actually hoped that it wouldn't get to the final!

I was sorry to see Ireland not get to the final, and apart from the host country Sweden, there wasn't any other Scandinavian country make it to the final.

It was very exciting to see the points total up, even though the UK hardly got anything - I would look forward to this new format being used again next year and in the future. It looks so easy to get over 100 points now, but we ended on just 62.

I like the new format of voting. I didn't see any of the entries apart from the winner at the end which I can hardly remember.
I know our boys ended in 3rd from last, but did they perform well?
What irks me is various countries singing songs in the English language. I would much rather hear countries singing songs in their own languages, backed up by traditional music. Then you could truly appreciate the traditional music from each country.

I thought the Ukraine entry was crap, beaten only by Cyprus.
By the way, aga, the Turks invaded Cyprus in '74, not '75.
Rubbish songs, rubbish competition. What a catastrophic waste of money all round. Why on earth are we involved in this cr p?
our boys were good but never stood a chance as usual ,the winning song was awful, Russia was good because of the effects the song wasn't great though . I wonder if the USA will be in next year as it was broadcast there .
// Australia should not even have been there - as not in Europe.//

blimey it is wonderful what one learns on AB
Israel isnt either but a lot of Israelis are, and have been 'in' for twenty or so years and even won once
Didn't watch the programme, but shouldn't it be re-named the Eurovision Visual Display Show?
Well I have recorded it so's I could really enjoy the extravaganza today.

Not worth watching it now ... S̶u̶n̶d̶a̶y̶ ̶e̶u̶r̶o̶v̶i̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶e̶x̶t̶r̶a̶v̶a̶g̶a̶n̶z̶a̶ cancelled :0(
Set the alarm too :0/
Your taste my taste-there's no such thing as the right taste !
Australia were runaway winners on the music industry panel votes. But there was a huge difference in the public telephone vote.
As is often the case a song was used to make a political statement.
Ukraine won not by the quality of the music but due to their stance against Russia. The song was a political protest and according to the rules of Eurovision it should not have been allowed.
Very interesting to see how much difference there was between the public vote and the music industry panels vote. It is the first time the 2 votes have been shown separately, previously we just got the 2 votes combined together so we were unaware of the difference.
I liked the Polish performance and I actually voted. But when he shot from bottom with 7 up to 4th or 5th I'm was worried my phone was on a loop and kept voting,

ive watched the show for decades and i have to agree with you its all about the visuals now it seems, Russia's song was not that good but the visuals were stunning and it doesn't come cheap.not to get confused with the stage visuals (excellent) Russia paid a lot for what they used, small counties cant compete with that
