This is a competition for a meal for two. Would any of you consider paying this sort of money for a meal for two? I was moaning about paying £40 for lunch for two the other week!

Square Mile - £1,000 Wagyu dinner for two at M Grill (London)

>We have teamed up with M Grill – Martin Williams’ superb shrine to steak – to offer you a three-course Wagyu dinner for two with matching wines, worth £500 per person.

In celebration of Great British Beef Week, M Grill has added pure-bred Wagyu to its menu. This addition gives the restaurant the most comprehensive selection of Wagyu in London. M already served Australian Blackmore Grade 9++ Wagyu, which is currently licenced in the UK to M, the Ledbury and Heston Blumenthal. M was also the first restaurant to bring Kobe beef to Europe last year. So, if you’re a beef lover, what are you waiting for?

"worth £500 per person"
Not to me it ain't.
I wouldn't pay £40 for lunch for 2 either, unless it was at least 3 courses and included several decent wines!

£1,000?!!!!!!
Obviously aimed at rich bankers - you could substitute a 'w' for the 'b' !
Might be nice when it's cooked.
Bet they wouldn't let me have my steak well done.
Steak well done is a shooting offence!
You don't HAVE to pay £500 a head at the M Grill.

You can get a quick lunch for less than 50, or a decent (leisurely) lunch for less than 100.
what is in htat picture at the bottom of the plate? It looks like a poo
Not far out Bednobs, shiitake mushrooms :-)

I know that all the ingredients are probably the best available, but it is still a lot of money to pay for a meal.

I am not even going to enter the competition - I like real food! :-)
£40 for two?
No, thank you.
is it one of those meals which looks like your plates dirty and you need to buy fish and chips on the way home ?
I would ask for tomato sauce just to look at the disgust on their faces.

I entered a competition yesterday where the prize was a bracelet 'worth' £75,000. It was pretty but there would be no way that I would wear it. I could buy a little flat for that sort of money.
Wolf: that's understandable and you'd sell it. However you'd have to sit down and eat £500's worth of food which to me looks rather unappetising.

I've entered just for the hell of it, you've gotta be in it to win it!
Wow, I've paid a lot for a special meal, but no way would I consider paying a thousand quid. I'm guessing the wine makes up quite a chunk of the cost. It'd be wasted on me.

Baldric, if it tastes awful ask for a doggy bag. On second thoughts don't - dogs with dodgy stomachs are not nice to be around.

Mrs C - I don't drink alcohol, do you think that I would get a discount or a cheque for that amount??
it may or may not be worth £1000, but it's certainly worth eating for free. (Mind you I'd probably eat a Big Mac if it was free, so my moral principles are not that high.)
