arrrgh typo!
Does that mean that you don't like us Scots?

Tory government in perpetuity? Not sure I want the extra life expectancy bit!
Of course

(as I'm sure you appreciate T3)

the increased averages don't mean that our life expectancy or GDP will actually increase

And whilst I have campaigned for Tory government at times I'm not sure perpetual anything is a healthy state.
Question Author
Not at all I support independence for you.
beyond tedious !
so if the Scots secede, TTT will live longer? That'll make Salmond think twice.
Here we go with the "perpetual Tory government" garbage again!
Question Author
well on this planet jeffa we call it arithmetic. There are 59 seats in Scotland 58 of which are non Tory, you do the maths.
There's lies, damn lies and statistics. ( Mark Twain )
Svotland or Snotland.....I like the latter for the new name, 'Her Majesty's Republic of Snotland' - proprietor and 1st country p-minister, one 'Ilick SoIamdone.'
I've explained this more than once, including in the last couple of hours...
Question Author
so have you redefined maths? I haven't seen how subtracting 58 seats from the opposition is not going to give the Tories a majority. Can you supply a link with your explanation.
Dearie me!
Question Author
just point me at your explanation that's all.
"Sigh"

You are correct that, of the 59 Scottish constituencies represented in House of Commons, 58 of them returned a Labour MP at the last election. Removing them reduces the number of Labour MPs by 58, obviously.

BUT REMOVING SCOTLAND FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM REDUCES THE NUMBER OF SEATS IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS BY 59!!!!!!

Once again, if you look at all of the general elections since the end of the Second World War, the party with the greatest number of seats if Scotland had been independent would have been different just twice, and those two governments set for a combined total of 26 months.

I really think you need to educate yourself.

ok found it in chatterbank, clea not meant for any scrutiny:
"Because I can count! It's just maths.

If you take every general election since the end of the Second World War, the party with the greatest number of seats would have been different in just two of them and, of those two, the parliaments they elected sat for a combined total of just 26 months."

yes that is true an indeed looks relevant until you point out that in most cases the majority was tory anyway. Taking out scotland would make no difference. Yes also in 1997 blair would have won even without scotland, however recent elections have proved a lot closer and thus -58 non Tory seats will make the Tories pretty well nailed on in the forseeable elections.
Tora - I'm sure you would agree the Lib vote would collapse at the next election. Who gets those seats?
In 1966 Labour had a majority of 98
In 1997 Labour had a majority of 179
In 2001 Labour had a majority of 167
In 2005 Labour had a majority of 60

Are you really sure the Labour party would never get in again if they lost the Scottish MPs?
Question Author
the link shows a current tory majority of 21 on todays configuration.
