It was a song I remember well (I was too young when it came out, honest) but when I got into music in the early 70s this was one of my favourite oldies as I discovered the great music from earlier years. I don't recall any more songs of his though

daisya - I think you might be confusing Scott McKenzie, who has probably died of natural causes, with Tony Scott, the film director, who, it would seem, has committed suicide.
