Monster dre beats solo headphones

Ive just bought a pair of dre beats headphones and Ive gone to plug them into my iphone to listen to music and it sounds distorted and quite echoey. Also on my ipod. Are these supposed to be compatible with the apple products or is there something wrong with these headphones.

I don't have any other device to try them on.

Please help if you know what the problem might be?
