how many recording artists can actually sing?

How many so called pop stars have made it big by singing the right songs rather than by having a good voice.

I have just been listening to Meatloaf, he really has a dreadful voice, I'm sure there are many more.

Totally agree Tigger about Freddies voice and what a showman, sadly missed.
*sang

I miss him a lot.
I love Bruce Springsteen, but I don't think he has a particularly good voice, great songs though.
I'm Christy....he's Shane :-)

The Proclaimers spring to mind - who I love and am going to see later on in the year btw.
I like the way they sing, but I know others don't.
If you danced like the 'ultimate showman' in your local boozer, you would be regarded as the local nutter.

I like how Meatloaf comes across as a person ...but the music is utter broccoli
I think Andy said he was going to Download this week.
Norah Jones can sing but her song quality has been slowly declining IMO
Thanks for that link, ummmm. I haven't seen them performing together before. Brilliant. I wish Shane would sort his teeth out.
loads more, and some really should have retired by now. Cheryl Cole was appalling at the Jubilee concert.
There's artists out there that I know can sing but I think they sound like a cat in pain, mariah carey for one.... I think it depends on the music you listen to. Some of the stuff I like, I think it would be fair to say that the people are not the greatest of singers, but it's about the whole piece of music. Christine Agulara (sp) has got a great voice, has done all the right songs for her voice, but I hate most of her music.
