What a shame, I always liked his music. RIP Bert, you had a good innings though.
I learned to play my guitar by following his 'Play in a Day'. I still have the book. So he inspired a not so great guitarist as well.
Very sad - modern music would not be what it is without his massive influence on some of the very finest guitarists and song writers.
Sad news, RIP Bert
Never liked his music and didn't really rate him much as a guitarist but he did bring the notion you could ' play in a day' to many people who went on to do great things, and I'm very sorry he's dead:(
Just heard on the radio. Great loss. RIP Bert
That's sad. My big sis used to drive us round the bend practising her guitar using Bert's book. And it certainly took her more than a day to learn to play
This is where I started Bert Weedons Play in a Day I am still trying to play but what great fun it is ,if if wasn't for Bert Weedon I would never have been who I am today .
RIP Bert see you in Heaven in the Biggest Band Ever.
Vastly overrated. There are 16 year old kids on YouTube who could wipe the floor with him.
i used some of his stuff when i was starting out. i remember the 'play in a day' very well and i still play my guitar now. it's a great stress reliever for me. rip.
I don't think he was over rated. He was a musician of his time and very popular. He pioneered the multi track, accompanying himself by recording over previous recordings. The fact that some 16 year olds are better than him is a tribute to his skills and eagerness to pass them on.
"He was a musician of his time and very popular. "

Les Paul and Chet Atkins were pretty much his contemporaries, and were in a totally different league.

Popularity is not a measure of ability or talent.
