There was an absolutely grim cover of Seven Nation Army posted here yesterday ... but actually I quite like cover versions that re-invent the original.

This turns an Echo & the Bunnymen classic into something strange end ethereal ... any other cover version favourites out there ?

i agree Sunny Dave. a cover version should bring something new to a song. this has always been a favourite of mine (i didn't even know it WAS a cover for years!)

I liked Dr & The Medics's version of Spirit In The Sky ...

I still love it when it comes on in a pub. Everyone rocks to it.

And, for some reason, I like Leona Lewis's version of Run more than Snow Patrol's.

I adore Nouvelle Vague's covers, which is what they do - a disparate number of punk and new wave classics bossa nova'd up with a seriously sexy vocal. Eamples follow -

Yes andy - nouvelle vague really are brilliant - way beyond the 'one trick pony' that lesser talents could have been.

And thanks for the PSB reminder Fanriffic - had forgotten that, but it is good :)
Adored this at the time :-)
