1940/50 Band Leader

I am trying to remember the name of a 1940/50 band leader. He was known by just one name and wore round rimmed glasses. Can anyone help please ?

Yes of course - Ambrose was the name I was trying to remember. Thank you both for your assistance. I think glasses were from Henry Hall !
