pink driving licence

i have a pink driving licence ,and someone told me that i should have had it changed to a photocard licence as the pink ones are no longer valid - is this correct or was the person winding me up ?

depends where you live i am in the south of ireland and have a pink one. It is due for renewal in september as it is 10 years old
When your licence is retrieved by DVLA for points they automatically update to current plastic & paper.
They are still valid as per it's face dates etc, it will be changed to the new format if you have to send it in for any other reason, address change for example. It costs to upgrade for the sake of it but it's free for the aforementioned address change for example.
