MAGNETIC TAX DISC HOLDERS - BEWARE!

If you have ever been tempted to use one of these neat magnetic Tax Disc Holders - be warned! I did - -and have just had to pay a Fixed Penalty of £60 because the dratted thing had slipped and allowed the tax disc to slide out and down below the level of the dashboard.......eeek
I of course hadn't noticed until the police did - and so I have just bought a nice old-fashioned STICK-ON disc holder.
SO the moral is - don't risk it and stay safely in pocket!!!!
I think it happened because I had my car valeted recently and EVERYTHING was treated with a silicone polish - including the mats/steering wheel / pedals and all windows.....eeek!
That's no excuse of course - but is the reason!!!

Do what I do - never clean your vehicles!
If you have payed it is too late now, but in that situation I would not have accepted the fixed penalty, I would have gone to court and pleaded not guillty.
You can't even appeal now if you have payed, by paying you have accepted fault.

You are indeed THE WINNER....couldn't agree more!
Which is why I posted this warning topic - I would hate other innocent folk to get stung 60 quid like I was!!

Believe me Lankeela my Disco only gets cleaned twice a year - in the Spring to get the salt/sand off and as I have two labradors - I kinda have to make it respectable when taking passengers.....LOL
When you reach my advanced age - you get somebody else to do it too..;>>))

I know I should have fought the case Eddie51 - but frankly I was so P'd off - I just wanted to get it sorted - and to warn others of the possibility.
The fault isn't with the magnetic tax disc holders.

You could have cleaned the windscreen with an alcohol cleaner as instructed.

Or you could have re-stuck the holder in the same place as the existing holder?

The windscreen must be clean and dry before anything can be stuck. The same rules apply for all tax disc holders, not just magnetic ones???

Thank you Bode for your words of wisdom re cleaning the windscreen - however the problem was NOT with the holder not sticking to the glass - which had indeed been cleaned according to instruction - but with the magnets not being strong enough to hold the tax disc in place.....the base layer of the holder remained firmly in situ....it was the disc which had been allowed to slip partly out of sight because the top layer of the holder had not been strong enough.
I was sorry to read that others had found the same problem and can only hope that by highlighting the problem - I may have saved others from being out of pocket at least!!!!
