Car engine cutting out

my car engine cut-out twice in the space of a few minutes. Firstly, it was when I was approaching a round about and secondly, when I was turning in to my estate, so I was in second gear at the time. Luckily, there was no other car coming the other way as I was still sticking out on the main road.

I haven't used my car for 5 days, as I have been away and I've only made stop-start journeys today.

My car is a Peugeot 206, 03 reg and has very low mileage for its age.

Does anyone know what the problem could be, as I am definitely not stalling the car.
Thank you

If the engine is cutting out abruptly, it sounds like an electrical problem. Is it a petrol car? Was the weather wet when the engine cut out? You could try spraying the ignition leads and distributor with WD-40. Check the low voltage leads and their connectors under the bonnet. Are there any loose connections and frayed leads? It is exceptionally dangerous to drive such a car on dual carriageways and motorways. Can you imagine the consequences of the engine cutting out at 70mph in the outside lane?
I have just had the same trouble with my car and all it was was the carburetta wanted cleaning the garage did it for me for £20 and it sorted it its been great since its worth a try.

yes, it's a petrol car.
Needs the idle system cleaning with carb cleaner, throttle butterfly .. same, and tps sensor testing at the throttle body. That will do for a start. (Also check wiring is intact to oxygen sensor in exhaust downpipe)

Hi albags. How do i do that, please in laymans terms.

I know nothing at about cars.

thanks
Kendra ... The car is an '03 206 .. It doesn't have a ruddy carburettor! : )
ML ..

You better look at a Haynes manual in the fuel injection section.
Intake pipe off to get at butterfly and linkage.
Manual probably also has tps (throttle position sensor) test figures.
Not difficult .. But you gotta know what you're doing!
