I have a 1997 renault clio 1.2 that has an intermitent fault i.e. will cut out and stall inbertween gear changes, and will idle very irraticlly. When the car gets over its problem it will be fine for upto two weeks before happening again. It has been in garage many times trying to find the fault to no avail and at great cost.

Any suggestions on solving problems would stop me going bald by pulling my hair out.

Has it been in a Renault garage?  Apart from checking all the basics and vacuum hoses etc., intermitant faults are very difficult to isolate.  I'm unfamiliar with the Clio but I would assume it's fuel injected that year.  Therefore it should have an engine management system that might be able to be interigated by a Renault fault diagnostic computer.

Of the top of my head it could be a faulty sensor providing incorrect data.

Hi,

I have the same problem that you describe. Mine is a 1997 Renaul Clio Biarritz. The first time I took it in they replaced the fuel pressure sensor.. this kind of worked as it didn't stall anymore... but the idle was still erratic. I took it ina again and now they are saying it's a faulty throttle body. To fix the throttle body it will cost me 230 :(

my car was doing that its a clio same year. it was the internal computer? it was reving to high ect. at forst he reset it and the same thing happend so than he changed it and its never happend since... i nearly ended up with new spark plugs and stuff.
